R50/53 how do i tell which auto tran is in a MCS
how do i tell which auto tran is in a MCS
the car is a 2005 MCS hardtop
I am trying to work on my friends car(i am a mechanic), but this is my first mini. The car as a burning rubber smell(not from the tires) when you put it into auto-manual mode. its has paddle shifter incase that makes difference. I guess my first question is how to tell if the car is a 6-speed automatic or a cvt. second questions is if it is a 6-speed auto it does not like to shift out of first gear when you step on the pedal hard and has a rubber burning smell. for note the burning smell is there in auto-manual mode even if you are behaving.
thanks for the help,
Mark

You have the 6 Speed Asin tranny...the only auto on the "S".
Burning rubber smell......any codes thrown or has it gone to limp mode?
I would clean the engine bay, and then look at the SC belt, and the Crank damper....either of those can give off a funny smell as they start to fail....either one if it fails all the way before it is caught can be a $$ thing to fix, since they can cause damage when they fail.

The auto box in that car has a very good reputation.....fortunately it is a pretty standard tranny, so if it does need work, it should not need a trip to the dealer like the CVT trannys.
