I've noticed many mod bugs here on NAM, myself included. Often we talk about how great the mods we have. Let me turn the table around here. What's that one mod that you wish you didn't do?

Another good and valid question for thee modders out there in MINI land. I was thinking the same thing after looking at your last post on why mod.

Worst can be interpreted many ways.
Most disappointing-didn't do what you wanted, not enough power gained, felt no difference, didn't live up to the hype.
Had the most unwanted side effects-exhaust is an easy one due to increased noise, limited power gain
High cost with too little (relatively) power gain. Rough ride with suspension work.
Definitely caused a part failure-a trouble maker mod that simply didn't hold up to use.
Didn't look as good with my MINI than I had planned- rims, stripes.

My choice would be my exhaust header (high cost, limited gain, louder exhaust noise) vs the M7 Plasma Booster (high cost, could not appreciate the difference).

I wish I had considered the painful ramifications of installing this ceiling fan.

I thought the finish was a good match for the alloy patina, but I did not consider the negative effect it has had on my headroom

But seriously, I wish I had not spent a small fortune on the R-90 wheels. I do love them and have always been a huge fan of 2 piece BBS wheels, but I could have done a lot better with my money with a set of light-weight wheels.

My Air-Horn - 3-4 Months ago the big (long) horn broke off its base. So I put a screw into the Y-spliter to force all the air out of the smaller (shorter) horn. I cant even hear the horn over my radio now. I just bought a new HELLA air-horn so mabe that will correct my lame broken mod. ohhhhhhhh I had metal air horns, so mabe the pastic will last longer

Hate to say it, but I haven't done a bad mod to my car. Everything I've done has been thought out and researched extensively before any of it was added.

That aside, if I had to list the least worthwhile performance mod I've read about (and hence, stayed away from) on the forums, it would have to be the plasma booster. Why? Writings from a majority of people who've owned or tested it. The PB leads the pack in the least benefits/highest cost ratio. Numbers listed on the forum here show it giving about 1 hp and 2 mpg increases for a bit over $200.

My worst mod - Only installing the rear sway bar on Mr.Motor[1] instead of Front and Rear beefed-up sway bars. There's nothing more dangerous in my hands than a tailhappy MINI. Thankfully - I rectified the mod with MM2!

So as I understand you are now running the Borla Street. Happy with it or just too tired to change again?

I started with Boston Creme and it was a huge failure. Now I'm running a 18.23423% pink frosted and its MUCH better.

The Borla Street is perfect for my "ears" and my "needs".
It's a bit louder than stock.
It has NO DRONE AT ALL.
It gives a modest power increase 5+ HP (the experts tout)
I purchased it thru a group buy at $570.

All exhausts are trade offs between volume and power gains.
It's a personal decision.
Attempt to go hear em all and additionally try to drive em all.... b4 you make your final choice

Peace,
D

It was just tooo loud and droned much too much in the cabin for me.
Many people luv and swear by it.
My advice is .....go drive a car with it installed....
and then make an educated decision based on your own ...personal...experience.

Peace,
D

I guess the one that didn't live up to expectations 100% would be the armrest. I got the one with storage and the top slides forward. It only slides forward enough for me to rest my elbow on the front 3 inches or so. Taller people would have their seat further back so they wouldn't have this problem. From pictures, none of the other armrests seem to come any further forward either, with the possible exception of the mini-fini version. I don't really want to spend another $150 though.

Ah, thanks D-MINI. See sound isnt a problem for me. I want it loud, and I had a Supersport motorcycle with a carbon fiber race exhaust that you could hear for probably over a mile... I can handle loud, so the magna looked like the best bang for the buck as far as exhaust goes. Does it have a euro sound or a "rice" sound?

Worst Mod: H&R Coilovers

I had one of the first production sets in the country and the ride height was no where near what H&R had said it would be. My car was slammed (1.75" drop at the highest setting, so probably 2.5+" drop if I had adjusted the collars back down the threaded body). What a total mess. At least H&R was good about taking them back. They also admitted that at the time, H&R had NOT test fit the coilovers on U.S. spec MINIs and that they would redesign the springs for future production runs.

I agree, light weight is the key to speed (i.e. Lotus Elise)!!

Hence, it's time to shed some wieght off the driver - me!

I tarted up bloo with an aluminum Moss lower grill cover. What a mess. Didn't fit right, scratched the black plastic a bit putting it on (then taking it off!) It was going to be held in w/ plastic ties?!?! with the original grill underneath. Anyone say restricted to the max airflow to the rad?

At least they took it back and gave me my dinero back.

MrWhoa....nothing rice sounding about the Magnaflow! It's got to be one of the best sounding MINI exhausts I've ever heard. Nice throaty deep sound with a really nice burble when you let off. It took about 1500 miles for mine to find it's voice, and it's been music to my ears ever since.

JCW's and Borla's are positively quiet in comparison.

Worse Mod would have to be something I was considering but ended up not doing.

I wanted to do this because no one else has done this, but then realised that I would be limiting myself if I did...I basically wanted to raise the car to SUV hights, and then sup it up to compete against cars like Cheyen and FX45 and such...I got the idea when I saw the car being raised on a machine...it just looked so good with the suspension fully extended...i think that soon, someone will do that and pics will be posted, and that raising the mini will become more popular...I guess I need 3-4 minis...one stock, one moded, one super moded and another in case I'm having a mini day at the track (the one that is located behind the garage with my 4 minis, 4 ferraris, 4 porsches, 4 BMWs, 1 McLaren, etc)
