BIG smokies = get a JCW MCS. Good to know if I'm in the market for a new toy.

JCW MCS = the winner with a 129ft burnout! Funny contest & probably the reason the JCW MCS doesn't have a much faster 0-60 time than the standard MCS (it can't get enough traction).
I've done many a burnout in mine before the pulley and even more after, but those days will be few now that I've roasted off the DunSlop runflats and put on Goodyear F1s. Gotta treat them somewhat nice.

It wouldn't suprise me that the Mini won. I have done a lot of burnouts on different cars and for a four cylinder front wheel drive car, the Mini can go quite far. I have burned all the way through first gear and partly through second gear, on a stock mini.

Just realized something....

Isn't the MINI the only one of the group without LSD? (meaning, the others were putting their power to the ground more efficiently)

How to win a distance related burnout contest in a MINI:

1) Select 3rd gear

2) Put on hand brake

3) Rev to 5000 rpm

4) Dump the clutch

5) rev as required to keep engine from bogging

6) Ease handbrake to instigate forward motion

7) Steer anywhere you like to avoid things

Stop when the tires blow !!

This thread just reminded me college times with my old 93 V8 mustang...

That thing could burn tires amazingly, the car wouldn´t move until you eased it out of the spinning.

I wouldn´t do that now, my michelins were too expensive (and now I pay for them)

I don't think the Honda, Acura and several others in the article have LSD. If anything, since they were in a straight line, the MCS, with its equal length drive shafts, was probably putting its power down the most efficiently of all the front drive cars.

I got pulled over once by a motorcycle cop (who I didn't see until it was too late) for spinning the tires off a stop light. He was threating to give me a ticket for "failure to maintain control of the vehicle." He ended up letting me go though. I think he mostly wanted to pull me over just to talk about the car, which we did for about 10 minutes. One of those very rare cool cops.
