Since Nashville is being deluged with the remainder of Isidore I thought I'd ask about driving with "performance" tires. My MCS handled great today on secondary roads. Never had to get out onto the highway. Any special precautions driving a car like this? I drove a Mazda RX-7 for 11 years that would spin out if it looked like rain....

thanks

drove 70 miles this morning from near-Cincinnati to Frankfort KY on US 127, a nice 2-lane non-motorway. Hit 3-4 pockets of standing water at about 55 mph, had a slight tug, but never even close to losing control. I didn't want to push Baby to very high speeds because I never knew if there would be a suicidal animal around the next corner, but at that speed in the rain, the run flats and car handling were excellent.

Nashrunner,

How right you are!!! Subjecting my mini to Nashville drivers - period has been traumatic. I stay off the highway as much as possible......

try Cali drivers -- you will most likely drive only at night between 4AM and 4:30 on brightly lit streets in Beverly Hills so to avoid anyone that might 'ding' or brush past your car too quickly.

i'm from the East and I know how to drive, but people here do NOT pay attention and they always have to be FIRST. Jeeze!!

I LIVE IN CALI AND I DO A LOT OF TRAVLING FOR WORK. I HAVE FOUND DRIVING IN CALI IS EASIER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE. THE CITY WITH THE WORST DRIVERS HAS TO BE DETROIT, MI.

Hey, I am a Cali! Actually it depends where you drive in the State. I prefer driving in Orange and San Diego Counties except when it rains in San Diego. They don't know how to handle rain at all. Actually most Southern Californians don't drive well in the rain but you are garunteed many accidents in San Diego if it rains. Lived in Northern California fo almost 2 years, they drive slow. It drove me nuts. I travel a lot and now live in Denver area. The worst drivers I have run itno are in the suburbs of Chicago. I love Chicago drivers, those in the city. They drive around jay walkers, it is expected. That was great!

ANyway, I move to Denver and it rains, the first for this drought strcken area. The run flats handle the rain just fine. Hit a puddle at 55 and it handled great, just the normal slow down you get when you hit a deep puddle.

You would think that living in Western New York, rain would be nothing... of course, most people on the road are idiots... but anyways, I finally had the Mach 4 in some rain, and no problems... My ASC did turn on when I had the revs a little too high at a stop sign, and of course, taking turns at 40 might not be the best of ideas  but it's still good... it's just rain afterall...

Yesterday was the first time I had the MINI out in really heavy rain. The run flats were great. Very little hydroplaneing and good traction under acceleration and braking. Actually better than the all season Pirellis on my Sable.
