Please check you upper coolant hoses
For all the non S owners I have a 2003 MC and I was looking at the engine bay just recently and noticed that the upper coolant hose right above the alternator was was rubbing against the bolt of the alternator. Luckily I was able to catch it before it rubbed a hole in the hose. It rubbed a pretty nice chunk out of it. So I temporarily placed a heavy duty paper shop rag in between for now until I can reposition it.
Also check that cable that runs on top of the intake/ram air tube in the middle once you pop open the hood. The one that runs parallel to the engine. I saw that it rubbed against the intake manifold. I got sick of repositioning it so I taped it down so it doesn't rub.
Now I see why minis have their issues. They can't seem to engineer these engine compartments correctly/efficiently. Who thought it was a great idea to put the radiator fill cap (I'm not talking about the expansion tank) right next to the battery? And make the cap plastic instead of metal like the rest of them. From what I experienced, radiator caps are normally above the radiator.
