So I got my car up to 135 mph for a friend who is considering an sti but tiqueled by the mcs. It was the first top speed run ever, for my mcs. Both of us where grinning. He said , wow did it always sound like that? I said, it always does. I look forward to driving my car every day.

How does one get "tiqueled" by their MCS, and is it possible for my car to do this to me?

I too look forward to driving my car every day. Tiquel or no tiquel.

Honestly that I hope your friend is considering the MINI on it's merits and not a straight performance basis... My roomate has an EVO VIII. That car is FAAASSSSTTTT!!!! A beast compared to the MCS. I love the EVO and if I would have had the money I would have probably gotten one. The MINI is however a very style rich, "PIMP" car for lack of a better word. It's a beast in it's own right, just not the same right as an STI or an EVO. If he does choose to get the STI, tell him to TD an EVO.. Much better car IMHO.

I drove a friends 04 STI last week and yes it is fast but, you have to muscle it pretty hard if your pushing it. Also rides much harder than my 04 mcs with 17" runflats (Frankly, that surprised me) His costs almost $10,000 more than my mcs and, during the hour or so that I drove it, no one around looked twice. I can't drive my Mini for more than 15 Min. without someone pointing, kids shouting, etc.
While both the STI & EVO VIII are nice, I'll keep my Mini, smile as I drive it and wave to all that "Just love that little car"

a) I sure hope you were doing this at the track.

b) Think of how much you would have been grinning in an STI that was going 147, or in an Evo going 155.

Seriously, the MINI is not built for straight-line speed. If that's what your friend is looking for, and if he's got the money, then he should head straight to the nearest Mitsu or Subaru dealer. If you allow for their ugly styling, the Evo and the STI are head and shoulders above our MINIs any day of the week. Buy a MINI for style, value, and overall fun contribution. Don't buy it to go 135.

Right, the comparison isn't a good one. The MCS and MC are from a heritage of rally cars not muscle cars. They are for quick cornering/handling and that's part of the beauty of the drive IMO. It is impressive you got to 135, so long as it was on a closed track. Isn't the governor on the regular MC at 124 and __? with the MCS. Of course they are fast but if anyone wants to just worship speed they should get something else.

I hear all of you concerned about speeding on the road and the danger to others as well as ours, thank you. I'm not so sure my friend would ever realy consider the mcs since he is a subaru driver now. He was very impresed with all the mcs offers and I could tell his wow impression was genuine. We hit 135 in 5th gear very close to red line. I also own an aprilia capable of 160mph and 10 1/2 second 1/4 mile.
I've taken that bike to 160mph a few times. I'm a responsible 40 year old business man who cares very much about other human life as well as mine. I love the thrill of high speed and ocassionaly like to indulge in it that's all.

Wouldn't you be going about 125 mph instead of 135 mph, because most speedometers exaggerate, and BMW has a reputation of being one of the worst for that. I bet it was fun though, huh?

U are probably right and yes it was a good rush. Next time I'll push it beyond 135 and u can calculate what true top speed is.

To be fair, the STI and EVO are based on Rally Cars as well...

Subaru Rally

And Subaru was the WRC champion this year.

And regardless of whether you're a 40 year old businessman, 20 year old baller or 70 year old grandpa - 135 on public roads is risky. One deer, or retread will make your day a special one in the trauma center.

I agree with you 100% to many retards driving in public roads.
Always make sure to get some track time to really have fun with your mini.
Specially if some ricers make it to the track the same day, then you will have fun with your stock mini.
But again those M5 are something.

Wussies? Whatever dude. You ever see a burn victim from a road related accident?

We've all driven fast on public roads - but seriously, if you REALLY want to test the limits of a car, track it.

I looked at a bunch of cars that were amazing to drive, but the MCS was the only one that made me grin ear to ear. It is a fantastic package of ability with a little understated attitude.

Seriously considered an WRX untill I researched the insurance costs, almost 40% more the the MCS/BMW328/TT/S2000, and I am 32 with no tickets or accidents!

Wow topic changed in midst of typing with a phone call.

135 is really fast, reaction time is extremely slim, even under the best conditions. Yet it is soooo easy to get to 100 in even a stock MCS.

None of us are Schumacher.

135 is fast, my oh my... Be pepared! In the U.S., big risk of a ticket. Or...
Worse, catching an unsuspecting driver off-guard :-

I ran 305 KM/H in a rental 911 Turbo (we did some touring
of Germany). This is going into Germany from Belgium.
911 Turbo 305KM/H

Honestly, the funnest, yet most intense drive. But my advice when running
high speeds- both hands on the wheel, no radio, climate control adjusted by co-driver, Liquid consumption prohibited! Also know your road, so you know the
bumps, turns, etc... If you wipe it at 130+, not too likely you'll survive. Even if you
do, extremely unlikely you'll walk away.

Caio,

-Matt

Cool pick Mark,

That is about 40 kmh faster than my top speed.
When I pass 80, always keep both hands in the SW and no diversions for me. If my celrang, i just let it got and return the call later, It is to Dangerous especially because the guy in front do not know that you are coming fast.
You do not imagine the accidents I saw because of that, Also it is important to anticipate, look the road but also signs from the pople in the car.
I woul not say do not drive fast, I just say be prudent when you do it.

I have wrung it out on public road under the "best " conditions allowed short of track time.

MCS/Stock out da box/ 17 Pirrelli/

While it was interesting, points out the car is not designed to motor at such speed.
No room for error self inflicted or external. Threshold of squireliness in line and response.

Much more enjoyable a ride at 90.

I prefer to carve the curves with a fillet knife or surgeons scapel. Others can rip up the roads with chainsaws.

Here in Montana, there was a time when the speed limit was "Reasonable and Prudent". In fact, when you drove into Montana from Wyoming, there was a big sign explaining just that.

For example, on a hot day with old tires, the reasonable and prudent speed on the interstate might be 65 mph.

On the other hand, with Julian's MCS, a reasonable and prudent speed was, according to the locals, probably about 80 mph.

I had heard once of a group of BMWs with professional drivers convoying down the interstate at 90+. The story goes that even though the cars were in great shape and had professional drivers, they were all pulled over and ticketed.

The fastest I ever got during the 'reasonable and prudent' days was 88 mph in my '88 Ford Festiva, going downhill. And 105 in my 1995 4 cyl Toyota T100. My wife's Subaru Forester's governor kicked in at 105.

Now the law's changed and the speed limit is back to a boring 75 mph.

Cheers,
Dan

Oh yeah, one more thing. Before the 'reasonable and prudent' days, the law was such that if you were pulled over for exceeding the speed limit *but* the officer felt that you weren't being unsafe, it was a $5 ticket and didn't go on your record. I think it was Montana's way of getting around some federal regulation at the time.

I heard a story about a rancher who would take a wad of $5 bills with him when he took a road trip in order to get across our huge state in a reasonable amount of time. He would just dole out the $5 bills as necessary.

Cheers,
Dan
