R50/53 Help me fit into a Mini Cooper!
Here's the deal, I'm 6'6" inches tall... and there is BARELY enough room for me. Is anyone familiar enough with aftermarket seating, such that you could suggest a new seat that sits lower than the MINI stock seats. If I can get one more inch of head room, I'm buying a Cooper S!
While I'm at it, (I live in Phoenix) what's up with the 7-9 month wait time for ordering a S model! Holy cow, am I supposed to have that kind of patience? I went for a test drive today...

are you really tall in the torso so your head is hitting the roof? Were the seats down all the way? I've heard of other 6'6" people fitting...
If you find a way to fit, order out of state. That's too long of a wait.

>>Well, my inseam is 38 inches, so I'd say I'm tall in the legs, but it's tough to say. I'm guessing that the 7 month wait time is not standard? Different states have different turn times?
Hey the turn time in Cali is approx 1 year (I dropped my deposit in January). minihune says the dealer in Hawaii usually has some on site though and regularly ships to the mainland.
I'm a measly 6'2" and have room to spare

Lay the seat back further and also ensure the vertical adjustment is all the way down. I've had a 6'7" guy drive my MCS without too much of a problem. I've even got the sunroof which according to those in the know, it decreases the headroom ever so slightly. If you still can't get comfortable, maybe you have much shorter legs and a taller upper body than my friend .
I'm in Phoenix and you're more than welcome to drive my MCS to see if you fit.

If head room is close be sure to not get the sunroof or if you really want it then do test drive a MINI that has the sunroof option to check how it fits you.
From your measurements I think your legs are long and torso about average for your height.
I would advise you to adjust the seat back as suggested to be less upright and see how that fits you.
There really ought to be enough space.

I'll let the tall guys weigh in about enough height. I just want to add my support to the idea of shopping out-of-state with a wait that long. Not to suggest this would be a place to go, but only for exampe, I bought mine from Bill Jacobs in the Chicago area. They said it would be 8 weeks and I took delivery on 8 weeks to the day. Also, I did not pay over MSRP. There must be lots of other dealers further to the East closer than Chicago that also can get them shipped quicker. Anyone?

MINI of the Hamptons on Long Island. Not closer, but reliable. Check dealer ratings.

Houston texas where I ordered mine is about a 3 month wait. I think 4 months would have been my limit before buying out of state. The shipping cost would have been worth it. I don't have the patience for the 3 months I'm waiting now!

Hey Mini of Nashville has a 4-8 week wait. You might try there, if it is not too far.

Is MINI North Scottsdale telling you 7-9 months from deposit ? I ordered my 2003 MCS and had it 3 months after first deposit, 2 months after it was scheduled for production. I have heard delivery for 2004 models was getting better rather than longer.
In Denver it takes about 5 months for an MCS. Got on the waiting list to order June 18. Placed my order August 15. Build date was Oct 10. Loaded aboard the Otello Oct 12. Arrived in California November 4. Hopefully I should be able to pick it up within the next couple of weeks.

SMALL detail for a BIG guy: To make sure the seat has been cranked all the way down, you first need to be sure the seat is not hitting the back seats.. In order: pull the seat forward, or angle the back forward first, then crank the seat down, the push the seat back all the way and choose your back angle. Of course, you will NOT have to do this each time, once your seat is set, you're good.
Also, note that with the seat in its maximum space setting, you most likely will not be able to have anything in the cargo net on your seat back.
God speed.

Hmm ... I am 6'7", 250lbs. and drive a regular Cooper.
I have absolutely no problem fitting in and my seat is not all the way back either (a notch or two before the last click) ... so I am not sure what your issue is with fitting in?
As far as headroom, there is still about 1-2" on top for me also.
The seats are height adjustable, and I have a feeling that you did not have them all the way down.
Either that or you have a dew like Slash from Guns 'n Roses
There are a lot of tall people like us that drive Coopers, you do not need aftermarket seating, believe me.

7-9 months is unacceptable; I agree. Cal Mini of Nashville 615-850-4040. Wait time is 7-8 weeks! They have no add-ons and go with msrp. I talked with Josh Buckingham 10 min. ago; they have 3 unsold Minis coming in Dec. Buy a ticket as save a lot of time and money.
I'm 6'4" and 260 lb. My inseam is only 33". For my height most of it is above the waist; however I have knee replacements and need lots of leg room and often must keep my legs perfectly straight. To get extra room run the seat all the way back and down (dhuh
) in this position I have about 5" of headroom and my leg are pretty near straight. To get a little more space pump the seat up and tilt the seat back, back and vola straight leggs and 2-3" of headroom. It sounds weird but it does work for a little more space.
Call josh and tell him Tom with the rea S and USA flag on top sent you.

I'm going to hunt up a Cooper without a sunroof this weekend and I'll see how I fit into that. I think I had the seat all the way down as I tried to lower it two more times after I got in. We'll see what happens.

Hey, how's it goin'? I live in Mesa.
I thought that the salesman at the Mini dealership in Scottsdale were very helpful and nice. I also thought it was neat that the showroom is on the second floor. I also thought that the 7-9 month wait was quite long. By the way, did you happen to sit in a white Mini Cooper S with tan leather inserts?

I fit! Now all I need to do is figure out the best place from which to order. Darn scheduling conflicts. I met Dominic today and he let me drive his MINI some more, then he showed me how to really drive it. I'm still wearing my idiot grin. I will be going without the sunroof, and I'll probably be adding in all the other options.... God Bless financing.
What dealers have you guys worked with? How hard it is to do the out of state ordering? Should I have them ship it or just fly.drive there and drive it back. Are they trade in estimates reasonable or should I spend the effort to sell my truck myself.
Oh, here's what I want on it right now and I'm curious if I have to order it this way, or if the alterations maybe the dealer can do:
-NAV
-Premium package minus the sunroof. That'll be the killer I think as I want everthing else, but no sun roof in my JCS
-JCW package is still up for negotiation
-H&K is still up for negotiation too.. I like them, but I'm not sure if I want to spend the effort to move the stuff out of my truck into my car. Darn all these decisions!
Oh yeah, that 7-9 month is not acceptable anymore, I want on today!

I just went through something like this myself...I would recommend selling your current vehicle yourself as dealerships aren't providing very good trade-in values on vehicles (the market is flooded with used vehicles). It took a while longer but I ended up selling my S2000 myself. Got about 3-4K more for it than trading it in.

I'm glad you had a great time. You looked very comfortable behind the wheel of my MCS. Plenty of room to work the steering. And, yeah, it's perma-grin.
It won't leave your face for a couple days yet.

There are a number of dealers who do not add a surcharge to get you into a MCS. Prices will all be very close from these good dealers (non-gougers). Some can get you a MCS quickly (6-8 weeks) while others who are not charging the premiums have long waits. The decent West Coast delears have MCS waits which are too long (some are over 12 months) This is the price you pay if you are not willing to be gouged and don't want to travel.
I decided to by from my nearest dealer (Rasmussen MINI, Portland, OR) with delivery in May-June '04. Thier price was right in with the good dealers shown below. I decided to wait because I did not want to travel 2700 miles across the US in mid-winter and risk damage to car from rocks, salt, and worse yet, out of control skiding vehicles. I also did not want to burn all my vacation time driving during short winter days.
I suggest you contact the following dealers and send them you exact configuration and get prices and delivery times:
MINI of the Hamptons, Southhampton, NY
Roadshow MINI, Cordova,TN
John Roberts MINI, Dallas,TX
Brian Harris MINI,Baton Rouge, LA
Prestige MINI, Mawah, NJ
They were all within two hundred dollars of each other on a fully loaded MCS. The differences were on dealer installed options and document fees.
Good luck getting that grin off your face. It had been months since I drove a MCS and I still grin each time I think about these cars.

if you don't want to wait start calling dealers in neighboring states and ask them how much and how long, then fly one way and have fun driving your new MINI home. I found mine in Texas and drove it back to Santa Barbara, I guarentee you will get home way ahead of schedule. I made it home 24hrs ahead of schedule, left the dealership at 8pm fri and got home 2pm sunday, what helped was reaching break in (1200mi) early on Sunday that's when the fun begins.
I would suggest you plan a small vacation to fly over and pick him up and drive him home! I bet they'd even come pick you up at the airport! I know my salesman in San Antonio would!
Good Luck!
