R50/53 R56 exhaust for R50?
R56 exhaust for R50?
The title says it all, can the R56 (non- cooper) exhaust be fitted to the R50? Would there be any negative change in power? I'm looking for the quietest stock exhaust possible...yes, I'm at that quest again.

Anything can be done for a price. However I don't think the cost of making the R56 system fit the R50 is going to work real well if at all. A local muffler shop should be able to fit an aftermarket muffler to the stock pipe and hang it from the OEM hangers too.

Thanks for the reply.

You'll need to work with your local muffler shop for the right one for you. If I didn't need to be on the phone as much as I am in the car mine would be even louder.

What exhaust change would make a bigger reduction in acoustic energy from 40-200hz? The lowest frequencies are what is driving the decibel meter and can easily be seen on a spectrum analyzer . Would the muffler have the best chance at reducing the freqs, or the resonator? Knowledgeable help based on both theoretical and significant empirical experience is greatly appreciated....I'm kinda looking to avoid the flawed unwittingly esoteric anecdotal tales that litter the web. Tried, true, measurable and provable is my friend
I've already collected the mandatory trite banter of "ear plugs" and "turning the stereo up", on to actual progress!
I have previously installed plenty of sound mitigation and resonance reduction material, with nary a decibel of mitigation. The source is low frequency energy that is from the exhaust.

I decided to call the better known manufacturers of after market exhaust systems today and discuss my quest (I can't tell you how excited they were!).

All four I spoke to today , said "you do not want after market exhaust because, all we offer at this time are systems that are louder than stock", they said " that's where the market is at the moment". The all said the approach of finding a quiet OEM is exactly what I should be doing, with the exception of adding a second resonator or a glass pack to the intact oem.
They did say if the model year Mini i had used a smaller resonator, and a later year used a larger resonator, that it might help to swap for the larger oem resonator.
Ok so now I have a plan, find a larger OEM resonator from a 2007 or newer mini and get another resonator added (after I try to larger oem).
Can I get just the resonator from the new style Mini, or do I have to buy the whole exhaust? Do these things exist on the used market...I'm guessing with so many people going after market, there must be some discarded oem systems collecting dust.
I realize this is a super old thread, but I wanted to post here as I was on the same quest to find a super quiet performance exhaust.
The answer? A Miltek exhaust, great performance and SOOO quiet, barely just a note above stock, no annoying loudness at all, I am so happy with it
The downside is the price, this exhaust comes out of Europe (Ireland I believe) and costs $600 :(, but in my opinion worth every penny!
