Help! I have idiot lights and my mini is sick!

I have 2005 Cooper S convertible. On the way home today, I went around a corner, not hard or eradicly, and my battery light, EML light and my ASC/DSC lights came on; it began to lose power and with full excelleration would only go 10-15 mph. I turned off the lights and AC, wondering if it was the alternator. I got it into my garage, turned it off, restarted it, without a problem, drove it around the block and no further problems. I replaced the battery within about a year and approx 30,000 miles ago. I have kept up with all of the services. I'm no longer under warranty (69,000 miles) and could use a little guidance. I'm in Orlando, FL and have no automobile/garage connections here.

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Andrea

Sensors caught something wrong and put car in limp mode in order to protect engine, ECU limits speed to under 30mph. Places like Kragen, AutoZone, PepBoys, etc have ScanGauges to do diagnostics for free and find out what codes your car had. Call and ask them, before you visit. It could be anything, sometimes things like a loose gascap will set it off, but it could also be something more detrimental. To find local trusted shop check with local enthusiasts, try: MINIs of Orlando MINI Club
or E2 Service

Based on this, the first place I would look is at the battery itself. Make sure it's secured well. Then check the battery cables to make sure they are tight to the battery. Also make sure the cables themselves are secured well to the ground and starter.

As howsoon indicated, stop by your local auto parts store and they should be able to pull the code for you.

Both good suggestions.

Years ago I had a car that did the same thing in corners and I found out the ground for the battery was loose and when you went around the corner it separated enough to break contact.

Check all your cables...

I'm voting for crank pulley/belt/tensioner.
