Opinions?

Hey everyone. I have found a MINI that I really love and need some help here. Its a 2005 S, everything except nav and H/K. It has 56,000 miles and they are asking 18,988. With my trade in of 10,500 (which I still owe on that about 9700) the payments are going to be 355 a month. The color is exactly what I want (Dark Silver) and the MINI looks to be in fantastic shape. Its also a manual which I am excited about too. Do you guys think this is a good deal or no?

I think it a little high... but you can work on it..(?)
I'm thinking ~$16 (maybe 16.5 w/ limited slip), that's a OK deal.

Added:
Check cars.com - '05 MCS w/ 40-60k mi => 186 cars with median price of ~17.5 (asking)

I'd like to see a few pictures, but from what you are describing, I would expect it to be in the 15.5-17k price range.

The car is almost 5 years old and out of warranty. With 56k miles, a few things are likely to need replacing very soon that cost $$$.

That seems a little high. We bought our 05 in May for $19K it had only 26K miles with a few mos warranty left, plus a lot of Dinan goodies -- and I still think we overpaid I agree with the others that $16K price range sounds more reasonable....

Yeah I'm starting to think i am going to have to look around a bit more. The only problem is this car is only like 3 miles from my house and all the others are about 1.5 to 2 hours away.

That's a fair price. Not fantastic, but a better deal than the first one. It's a little better than Carmax pricing for similar models.

It has the cold weather package (heated seats + mirrors) and the automatic A/C, which I really like. It doesn't have the sport package (so no Dynamic Stability Control, non-sport suspension), but it's tough to find a sport-packaged MINI with a sunroof (you can order them both just fine, but it seems sport owners don't want the extra weight).

Also, just a reminder: unlike most cars, I believe that most MINIs are manual transmission, so don't treat a manual Mini Cooper S with a stick as a hard-to-find item (from what I hear, 75% of MINIs are the S version, and 100% of those were manual for a while).

Yeah after looking at this 2006 a little closer (and of course falling in love with it) the only thing it doesnt have that I would like is the Xeon headlights. But i can live without that since it has the H/K. Do you think there is still some warranty left since it is a 2006?

Sounds like a reasonable deal. I think warranty would have been up at 48K miles unless they bought an extended one. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the previous owner of mine had extended the service plan through end of warranty (4 years as opposed to the original 3) so was able to get a free inspection and oil change in. You may want to get the VIN # and see if a nearby Mini dealer can run the info for you.
