Need advise on 06 Mini with 110,000 miles

There's a 2006 Mini for sale in my area for 8800.00 with 110,000 miles. Looks great and drives great. It has an automatic transmission. I've been reading and it seems that the earlier models had tranny problems. What do you guys think. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

I know the 2003 autos were a problem, think other years were ok.

Justa or S? The S has the six speed Aisin auto and the Justa has the CVT.

Here's a link for a high mileage Mini forum that might have some information.

It's the base model with a sunroof and a CVT tranny.

If the CVT hasnt been replaced in tha past then it is likely to fail in the future. Even if it was replace in the past (say at 60k) it may fail again, to have the dealer replace a CVT is an $8000 dollar job.

Edit: I am way overstating things here. There are certainly a bunch of MINI's out there with 100k on there CVT, the trick just seems to be regular with the fluid changes, like every 25k.

since you are going for a test drive tomorrow, these are some of the things that you might want to pay special attention to during the test drive.

check whether cvt is acting in an unusual manner, check for rust in the door sills, and check the strut mounts for mushrooming.

Get the 5 speed instead, thats a good price but the impending probability of the CVT failing will always be looming in the back of your mind....than bam that $8k deal suddenly turns into a $16k nightmare. I'd just get a 5 speed or save a bit more and get an MCS auto.

I'd blow it off...

while you won't get an 06 for $8.8k, you can get lower mileage older cars for that price (used prices have dropped something fierce). I'd stay away from the CVT on a high mileage car....

Matt
