R50/53 02 clutch problem?
02 clutch problem?
Smugly driving my new to me used 02 Cooper (80K mile) today, the clutch suddenly got soft feeling, and shifting became virtually impossible. No slipping, but in and out was quite hard. Took it to my trusty general mechanic who drove it and said the release bearing was gone. You could smell clutch. Will need to pull the transmission to get at it. 11 hours by the book. Should the clutch be replaced as well?
Thoughts....
Thanks,
Casey

Hello Casey, sorry to hear about the bearing, but while he's in there go ahead and replace everything you can afford to replace it will save you money on labor down the road.
