Recharging a/c refrigerant on 05 S?

It's blowing ambient air. The problem is I can't locate where to refill plus the a/c refill that I have brings "stop leak technology."

The car is still under warranty but if I can do it in 15 minutes it's better than taking the car to the dealer and having them spend the whole day fixing it.

If it is under warranty then it is best left to the Mini techs. AC is closed system and if it is low then there is a leak. The way to find the leak is to totally evacuate the system and if the leak is not apparent under vacuum then pressurize with nitrogen. If you fill it yourself you won't really know how much to put in and you wouldn't have fixed the problem. It's much better to have then do it if it will be on their dime.

Thanks for the reply. Can't believe it took so long for someone to reply. This forum must be dead.

Where can I locate the a/c under the hood? I have a gauge to check the pressure but I can't see the condenser. Where is it?

THanks

If you can't find the condenser, and can't find the A/C connections, I'm not trying to be a schmart **** here, but I suggest you not try to do this yourself.

You certainly do not want to try to save some time doing it yourself and messing it up and potentially getting your warrantied voided... just bite the bullet, take some paper work or your laptop along and get some work done while they are fixing your leak properly. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks a lot. I'll try to see if there is pressure and then probably make an appointment with the dealer.

If you are using one of those gauges from Interdynamics then I suggest you simply throw it away before you damage something. Their products are garbage. And how much Freon would you put in? There are concerns of overcharging that would be expensive to fix if you did put too much in on the suction side.

And if somehow you hooked your gauge to the high side, then all sorts of bad things can happen.

That said I find that the Mini comes with a short charge and many times it only needs a bit of Freon to bring the system to a place where it works on hot days. But you said yours is blowing ambient temps. In that case, trust me, you are best leaving it to someone with the right tools and experience.

Yeah, I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow or whatever day they tell me to come in.
