One Ball - Pop\Crack on Throttle Release

I have an '04 S, and am looking to release some of the back pressure of the stock system without spending alot of $$$ and keeping the original tips.

Hence I have been contemplating the 1 ball system, but it a little loud for where I live and I do not like the popping\crackling on throttle release.

I have a Alta CAI, and 2% reduction pully and use the vehicle for city driving and HPDE.

Could a small resonator before the one ball reduce this?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Pat

Have you done the one-ball, from your post it seems like you are considering it.

It shouldn't be much louder than stock, just a bit deeper. No complaints on mine.

Pat-If you do a one ball & for some reason you feel it is too loud just add a small resonator in the straight pipe aft of the cat. The shop that does your one ball should have no problems adding a resonator if it is needed.

The one-ball sounds much better with a straight through muffler/resonator after the header flange. As you suspected it eliminates the popping noise. If you replace the OE flange with an aftermarket piece, the narrow neck-down after the flange will be removed from the flow path, another plus.

I recommend going one step further and deleting the header’s pre-cat.

So I should eliminate the precat, add a resonator after the cat, and then do the one ball

Thanks,
Pat

If you have any state inspections where you live your car will most likely fail with the pre-cat removed.

OHIO! What's up? I'm from Canal Fulton by Massillon area originally, but now I'm in the service stationed in Tucson. Always nice to talk to a fellow Buckeye! Anyways, I'm looking at getting the one ball done to my 06 MCS and was wondering if any normal shop will do this like Midas or my local mechanic who changes my oil. Also, I recently purchased a 03 MC for my wife and was wanting to do small mods to make the little guy sound like it's big brother. LOL. Can I do the same for the 03 MC or is there no resonator to cut out and bypass? Thanks.

Pat-Glad to hear it worked out for you. What is the going rate for a one ball conversion where you live?
