Race/Daily Driver Tires

Time for new tires and my dealer wants to put a random set of tires on her for a little under $700!

I want something that would be a good tire, but will also be a fun autocross tire without switching completely to a race tire (not quite at that level yet ).

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Either the Star Specs or the Kumho XS tires. Everything else is older tread compound technology or not price competitive.

My Tire Sponsor put a set of Cooper Zeon 2XS on my R50 before MOTD. After 7K miles, running them hard at MOTD and a few AutoX events and one Track event I'd buy them next time. Stick to everything, wearing well and nice and quite on the road.

+1 on the Star Specs, I have them on my R56, they're great, especially for the price.

Get either the Star Spec or the Kumho XS.
Go to tire rack and make sure they have them in your size.
Email Alex and tell him you want NAM pricing shipped to your zip.
Call him, give him the $400~ and await for shipment.

Optional, call your tire person and ask if it is ok to have them drop shipped to the shop, prepaid.

Lots of really good choices for summer performance tires. Falken 615s, which I currently run for Autocross, no longer on my list, older technology.
The serious autocrossers that run in Street classes locally run on one of the best bets below (except the Kumhos--no one I know running them)

Best bets now would be: (in no particular order)
Yokohama Advan Neovas AD08 (highly recommended by local AutoXer)
Bridgestones RE11 (I run on older version of these (RE01r) for my daily driving, fantastic tire)
Kumho XS supposed to be a great performer (according to reviews--see Grassroots Motorsports and TireRack), but have not talked to anyone who has actually run them
And the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec.

Seems like the Dunlops and the Bridgestones are an East Coast/West coast thing according to some local autoxers (who consistently win their events in the STU class).

Size may be the deciding factor, only the Kumho is available in the 215-45-16 size I use for Autocrossing.

Kumho XS
GRM magazine rated them the best sport tires
Buy the current Grassroots Motrsport at a Borders or Barnes and Noble for results.

I just came off a track weekend with a set of Advan Neova AD08s. They had 1000 miles going in. After 7 sessions between Sat/Sun the front right chunked really badly and now has to be thrown away. I plan to finish using them up on the street and will get the Potenza RE-11 for my next DE. I've run on this track probably 1000+ miles and never had a problem with tires.

The track is going to treat your tires a lot differently than an AutoX will.

Quick note. I researched this tire and it appears to measure out a 9.4 inches instead of the advertised 8.4 listed on TR's chart.

People that have measured them say they are at least 10mm wider than indicated per tire when stacked side by side with the RT615.

So when fitting, think of it as a 225 or 235. In my case and offset, these will not fit. So I am bummed but will likely be checking out the 205 Star Spec or RE11.
