spark1135,

Aloha and welcome to MCO-
The corolla S is good and you can put out an ad for someone to take over payments or purchase/best offer. Sell it to a relative or co-worker if you can. Retired people like corollas. They are less common than camrys so on the used market they are more rare and a good value. You might take a little loss but not too bad.

Trouble is the cooper is in very high demand and it is hard to find any cars in stock and there is a long wait.
What kind of cooper would you get?

Welcome

I dont know what the Corolla resales for ,or how much it is fully loaded, anyways you should do like the infamous minihune says, try to get it to someone you know or an old person, that way you'll probably be able to get more.

Depending on where you live it could take 2 months (east coast dealer) to a year or more (west coast dealer) to take delivery. So if you time it right you might not be out of a car for long. Try ebay also, or trade in, maybe you'll get a good deal.

You looking for an S or a regular Cooper, I'll just guess S because you have the "sporty" Corolla, lol. Maybe you should give MINI of the Hamptons a call, they always have tons of cars on the lot.

Good luck and hang around.

**excuse the hijack**

an "old person"??? oh, that's a very PC term.

And why should he be able to get more money out of said "old person"?? because old people are easy to rip off? Because they're so old and their lives so dull they have nothing better to do with their money?

Sorry, but i hate generalizations. especially when it comes to OLDER ADULTS (correct terminology, btw). There are more people aged 65+ in this country than there are people under the age of 15. And this age group will CONTINUE to grow and will constitute the largest percentage of the American public for quite awhile.

So you better think twice before ASSUMING that some "old person" down the road wants to buy your Corolla or that s/he'll pay you more than it's worth.

**hijack complete**

It was I that said old person, and in fear of having this thread deleted I will say nothing more than welcome to the real world my friend! This isnt anything huge like racism (and I would know, I'm white and my girlfriend is black, I deal with that all the time!), would you have rather me called them (or should I even say that without fearing attack) people over the age of 65 (or is that not the right age, maybe 55, maybe 70). Maybe some of them are kids at heart and dont like being called older adults. In my experience old people (gasp!) usually are not as keen when it comes to pricing of cars. Sorry you were offended, but get over it!

Sparky... Sparky... who can blame you???

Welcome to our obsession! Your puzzle is that if you order your MINI now, you will have all that pressure to sell the Corolla as you count down to the delivery of your new new puppy. We have lived through it with others... and it ain't pretty.

Just do the math and get a conservative prediction of what this may cost you. If you can sleep at night with the potential loss, take the plunge. We will be there for you Sparks.

God speed.

Good luck selling the Corolla. I'm currently trying to sell my 2000 Corolla in anticipation of taking delivery of my MCS next week. The car is flawless and only has 27000 miles and I can't even get calls for the ad in the paper.

Spark, before you do anything make sure the Mini is the right car for you. Will you need more space? Carry more people? Does it snow a lot where you are?
I absolutely love my MCS but, I live in the Northeast and Dec-March it is not the most practical car out there. I should mention it is the 3rd car in a 2 driver household and we put over 20,000 miles on it in less than a year. That should give you some idea how much we like it.
But, getting back to my original point. Make sure you can live with it before you give up a good car like your Corolla

Sparky,

Get ready to take a hit on the Corolla. Used cars, even '04 models, are having a tough time moving against the dealer incentives. October is traditionally the worst month to sell a used vehicle, as not only are you competing against the dealer's new models, but also their "leftover" '03 model year inventory. I recommend that you enjoy your Corolla for at least two years, during which time you can spec your MINI and order it exactly the way you want. Otherwise, the only happy camper will be your banker.

I just want to support the idea of calling Mini of the Hamptons. They have Minis in stock, ship in the US for $100, and seem quite reputable by the ratings. Yes, it would be a $ hit trading in an '04 but at least they could give you a good ballpark. I bought my Mini from Bill Jacobs in Chicagoland. They sometimes have a few come in not yet claimed so some other dealers must too. Maybe tell some what you are looking for and they'll be on the look.

Now, I gotta weigh in with the old people issue. I am proud to be a PC guy. Speaking of hijacking! What's wrong with trying to not use language hurtful to others? But in this case I think using the term old people could be somewhat liberating to all. To use euphemisms implies it is bad to be old. That's a national phobia we have that it would be good to be over with. When I am old I want to be called what I am with no stigma. This is coming from a guy who is working on a grant in the area of gerontology. All this said, I think the bottom line is simply using the term the individual prefers. I find some over 65 get mad if I say something like "elders" and want to be called what they are: old. While others want words like "seniors" etc. How about just using the words individuals prefer and asking is OK. My two cents.

Hey, wish you a Mini soon and stay around the site regardless!!! Let us know how it goes,

A Guy Approaching the Old Years,

Hey,

I'm an old guy who understands car pricing.....I even got a $350 discount AND free floor mats when I bought my new MINI.

Nothing wrong with being old, if you're lucky you'll be old someday. What I hate is when the PC stuff gets so bad it's almost impossible to hold a conversation without offending somebody or some group. I say we should relax and give it a break.

Um, I think you mean they ship for $1,000, not $100.

PS Old people rock! Especially Wilford Brimley in Coccoon.

Can't argue with that logic. Being old sure does have its advantages over the alternative.

Here's to us "Old Guys" We're glad to be here! I for one NEVER take offense at being called and "Old guy" I was in the Army for 30 years. The commander of any military organization (if male) is referred to as the "Old Man" whether he is a 26 year old captain or a 50 year old colonel. It is a term of respect and endearment that still warms my 55 year old heart.

Perhaps I was having a "senior moment" (there's a term I hate since it usually just means "I spaced out&quot. Indeed, Mini of the Hamptons does ship for $1000 and not $100. Thanks for correcting me.

Old in much of the world is thought honorable and a source for wisdom. Here's too us old men and women young enough to love our Minis.

YES, That is exactly the point I was trying to make. No, not everyone knows the current PC term for every category of people. And yes, every individual has his or her own preferences when it comes to how they would like to be addressed. But it might behoove you to know that calling an older adult an "old person" could be viewed as equally as offensive as calling them "geezer" or "old fart".

This isn't about what terms you respectfully, lovingly or jokingly use to refer to your sarge, your dad, or your older friend. This is about making generalizations about a group of people you must know next to nothing about. And I completely agree that it's too hard these days to be perfectly PC- no one is- which is why I was taking responsibility in letting you know that calling them "old people" is not the most appropriate term. And perhaps in the future you will use a little more tact, thoughtfulness, and respect when addressing this group of people who so GREATLY impact your country and your life.

This isn't about whether your girlfriend is black. In this country it's OKAY to date outside of your race. Is it illegal? NO. But do a few ignorant people manage to sometimes tarnish an otherwise glorious experience? YES. Keep that in mind. Ignorance affects more than just the ignorant.

I also work with older adults in my profession. These people are my passion and my livelihood. And you know what? You can never offend anyone by being sensitive, compassionate, and respectful in the way you address them. If they'd rather you call them something different, they'll tell you so.

So don't patronize me or others by insinuating that bigotry and disrespect are an essential part of the "real world". I agree that much worse things happen day to day than someone being called an "old person", but spreading uneccessary negativity is something we can all control within OURSELVES.

Stop and think about what you're saying about someone before you post it on a nation-wide message board. Not only was the term you used offensive (IMHO), but it is also highly judgemental to assume that just because they're aged, they are stupid, naive or clueless enough to pay more for a car than it's worth.

CONSIDERATION... is the key to life!

Cry me a river, I wasnt trying to be un pc and offend people, you just had to turn it into that, sorry I said old people, gosh, that's what they are, not like there is an old person on here reading this right now crying. And I said in my experience they are mostly clueless, not all! Dont accuse me of saying all are such. Whatever, I know I'm now viewed by all of you as a stupid spoiled kid that doesnt know anything, it's ok though, start your little PC fights, all I wanted to do was help the guy out, but go ahead and jack his thread once more. I generalize (oh no!) people like you as sheltered churchy types, oh that cant be PC, cry about it, and welcome to the real world.

Important Lesson in Life Us Old Guys Learned: it doesn't matter what you mean to say, if someone takes offense; give them an unqualified apology -- "I am sorry, I did not mean to offend you. It costs nothing, you keep the moral high ground, and it is the right thing to do. God knows that I have apologized hundreds (thousands) of times when I knew I was right. It's why I'm still married to the same wonderful woman. Pleas accept this in the constructive manner in whihc it is offered. If it offends you, I apologize.

"Nevermind the Bollocks" herein.... & Welcome!

A few steps to get you going:

1) Go to your nearest MINI dealer
& see if they have a car available for you, sitting on their lot.

2) Speak with a MINI "Motoring Advisor," [what MINI calls a salesperson] & see what they can offer you for a trade-in on your Corolla S. They will not offer anything decent, I'm afraid. If it's a downright insulting figure, ask to speak directly with the MINI Sales Manager & explain you're looking at becoming a lifetime MINI/BMW owner (exactly what they want to hear, but likely true once you get your MINI anyways

5) The Trade-in route may be your best bet regarding hassel for you. Few folks are looking to buy a "Brand New, *used" car. It's better for them to just go buy a new one, since it's nearly the same money, yet without the one-out owner, loss of warranty mileage, etc. *At the same time, someone may see it as a deal?! Which you will have to price it at.

6) MINIs are available. If you're going to find one soon, - beat down the door!

I'll stop there... I don't know enough & likely should've stopped writing a while back, - since folks seem to want to debate & chuckle over one another's PC-ness, rather than discuss your question.[b] [Friday-ness happened here, today.]
