I have a quick question, when your purchasing a Mini new (ordering from a dealer), does the $1,000 deposit you place on the car get subtracted from the final amount? So is that amount taxed?
Just trying to calculate a few finances out...

Also, what the hell is the $160 dock charge? I would think that is included in the shipping cost?

The $1000 you put down will be subtracted from the cost of the car with tax

Cost of MINI + Tax - $1000


the $160 doc charge is most likely a document handling charge to file your DMV paperwork.

That makes sense, but I like the visual of a boat load of MINIS floating just off shore... unable to dock for want of that $160 doc fee... the cars tooting their little horns... "Help us! Won't someone help us?" And they pass around an inadequate cup holder... but nothing fits in it...

Your a satellite guru, right? Any suggestions on good XM radio antennas?
The current one I'm using (Sony factory kit), isn't too hot... In "urban
canyons" it goes in and out of signal.

I go to the dealer next Thursday evening for my deposit...

Yeah, I was working at Hughes (now Boeing Satellite Systems) in El Segundo, CA when they built the two XM satellites, but I haven't really investigated XM HU or equipment.

 

Wow, the "XM Rock" "XM Roll" units are small! I wonder why they don't
do that in Europe? (too difficult to liscense amongst countries?)???
Do you know what freq those broadcast on?

I think I'm antenna absurd- my MCS will have XM radio, my
Garmin StreetPilot III mounted (external antenna needs to be
mounted), AND (if I decide to) my motorola T720 on handsfree
(w/external antenna- of course :smile:

Funny dream- I had a dream last night that I didn't pay for my
"dock fee" :smile: And these mafioso guys were holding my MCS ransome
in some warehouse and I was going in all ninja style and breaking
it out

zfxr ---> read your purchase agreement again, you'll see that it clearly says "documentation fee - $160. I know because I'm looking at mine from Motor City MINI. What bothers me is this fee is taxable, and has nothing to do with the separately charged title and registration fees. I plan on throwing a fit prior to delivery, because I had to pay no such charge 1st time around!

I haven't actually ordered yet, but yeah, WTF is that fee? I think it may
be another way to get a few more bucks in (hidden 2004 cost increase?).

I wonder if the 3 spoke wheel will kilter off the price again? When do you
take delivery?

there is no '04 hidden cost increase, the documentation fee is an easy way for the dealer to skim off a few more bucks from unsuspecting customers too excited about taking delivery to notice.

The 3-spoke wheel won't be available until December 1st build dates, and will be an option. I don't have the pricing for the 3-spoke in front of me, check out Bridger's site

(I just got my EDD today, 10/24! )

check with your dealer about the deposit. i placed a deposit with my dealer via a credit card, and they could not apply it to the car price, so i had to pay the full price and then my deposit was refunded to my credit card.

they said something about processing, for me it was only $500 so it didn't bother me too much, i got the credit in a day or two...
