Exhaust tone

My last car was an American V-8.
I wanted to make it sound good so i took it to a muffler shop and for about $130 i had 2 flowmasters installed and it sounded really healthy.
I have been researching mini cat back exhausts and realize that there is a small HP increase too but the price tag of $850- $1100 is too much for me right now. I'm not to concerned about stainless steel and pretty.
Does anyone know of just a muffler replacement that would get me a more aggresive tone, and has anyone done that .
Does it cause a CEL?
And is there any downside??
i have an 05 mcs, and
am not interested ina "one ball"
thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has done it, but haven't read about it specifically. Curious about why the "one ball" is out?

I did a custom exhaust from the cat back. Its a magnaflow muffler from a mustang cobra and a magnaflow resonator. I used some tips I found online, similar to corvette tips. Tone is deep, sounds way better than one ball. I have a one ball set up as well, and really dont like it. My custom was done WAY cheaper than those aftermarket systems, and sounds much better.

Take a look at scorpion cat back. Bought mine from Bavarian Autosport under 600 shipped. Nice sporty tone and really brings out the burble.

camthewookie,
feel that the one ball is restrictive, 2 pipes into one,
i know it is really just one pipe, but then why start with two.
looking to just change the tone with mufflers
thanks

The muffler, I have no idea of a part number, it was just one they had laying around the shop. The resonator, is 2.5" in/outlet diameter, and I believe 12" long. For the muffler, talk to a good exhaust shop, not a midas type. They have catalogs full of universal mufflers that will give you different tones and volumes to suit your needs.
