3 oil changes in 3 years too much to expect from service warranty?

I picked up my MCS on June 3, 2006. By June of 2007, my car had very low millage (it still does), but I was told they would change the oil under the service warranty after 1 year regardless of mileage. I called prior to June 3, 2007 and got the first appointment they had for an oil change on June 11, 2007.

In 2008, I called and was given an oil change appointment of June 23, 2008.

I just called today (May 6, 2009) and told them I wanted to get in before my 3 year service warranty was up (June 3). They said that they wouldn't change the oil until after June 24, 2009 but they'd have to charge me since that is after June 3rd (when my 3 year service warranty expires).

I think that is just wrong. By giving me my first service date beyond the one year mark, this chain of appointments was doomed to fall outside of the 3 year mark from the beginning. If my appointments would have been say May 31, 2007, June 1, 2008 then the third would have fit within the 3 year window say ... June 2, 2009.

I will be doing my own oil changes in the future but I kind of feel that I am owed this last one.

What do you guys think? Am I wrong to think this way? If you think I am wrong, that's cool, but if you think I am right what do you suggest I do? Anyone else have this kind of thing happen?

I agree with you. You ought to talk to the owner/general manager. Indicte how much you like the car and compliment their service department. Hint that you will go elsewhere in the future for service if they don't comp you this one.

If that fails, contact MINI HQ in NJ. It can't hurt to go to the top.

So in three years, the only services you've had done are two annual "low mileage" oil changes? Your onboard computer hasn't come due for *any* of the regular services? How many miles do you have right now?

I agree that the dealer should be willing to "goodwill" you one more oil change - after all, they've made out pretty well if you haven't come due for anything else.

Also, get your brake fluid flushed out if you haven't already - that's part of the maintenance agreement as well, and it's due every two years.

Exactly what happened to me. Two free low mileage and then missed out on time for the last by a couple months. Not even totally sure I got a full service with the low miles.

We will soon be in the same situation - ours was purchased new on May 12, 2006 and our third and last low mileage oil change and inspection is scheduled for May 12 (next Tues.) at Mini of Charleston. I don't forsee any problems, but I'll be ready to plead my case if necessary.

ScottRiqui, as of this morning the milage was 12,666 (hmmmm, that's not a good number). Besides the oil changes I've had it in for leaking coolant at the thermostat and at the 2 year mark they did also bleed the brakes. I guess they just don't like us low mileage guys :(

find a different dealer...or complain to a manager like already suggested. My dealer changed my oil, and i wasn't even half way due...and it was all free.

What dealer?????

What dealer do you go to? Where? I would think they would do the change just to be fair.

You never got much value out of the maintenance or the warranty because of the low miles. (Of course, you paid for it.)

I'm not sure how mini warranty goes, but since you are going out of warranty, I would go over the car on last time, or have someone go over the car (even though it is probably pristine) and make a list of anything that looks like it needs attention. Then go in to the dealer one last time and see what they will take car of, and by the way, can you change the oil? They may say no to one thing and do the oil to make you feel better.
Even if they say no, get everything else taken care of.

I took our BMW in, it 2 months before the warranty expires, they found some wetness on the PS hose, and changed them all. I'm waiting on a new seat bolster because it lost it's shape on one side. They were pretty nice about that.

Yes I'll have to go back and see what they can do for me. The dealer is Bill Jacobs in Naperville Illinois.
