Lots of ex-mini owners still lurks in the forum once in awhile. Mini is a lifestyle, don't say goodbye as who knows you'll own one again someday. Maybe the next gen will be a 1.8 turbo in the 230 HP base stock? The Genesis is also a good looking car and has potential for power.

That's quite a different vehicle but those seem like they're going to be pretty awesome, you'll need to post some pics and I'm sure you'll be back, these lil' buggers are just too addicting to give up that easily. :D

i am 57 and i can remember doing a similar thing in the early '80's'. i was a home builder, not yet 30, and thinking, is this slowdown ever going to end. you know that in the history of our economy, things are good and then they turn badly. don't be so discouraged that you want to sell everything. the economy will recover and the only change will be that all the goods that we bought before will be a little more expensive. of course, wages will also be higher. it may be a little late to send this message to you, but i hope that some others will keep this thinking in mind.

Yeah, but, dpcompt, the Genesis "isn't your father's Hyundai". Not starting at $22k.

I think ED955S is right, though. I'm probably a soon to be ex-MINI owner. I still have my MINI but will likely be selling it soon.

But, as the guv'nuh says, "I'll be back."

Happy trails to you , via con dios, and don't be a stranger; perhaps you'll be back in a mini before too long...it has been known to happen occasionally.

Good advice but I don't get the feeling that the OP bought the Hyundai due to the economy. If anything it seems he just wanted a different car, maybe needed something a bit newer and larger, and right now the Genesis is the new big thing out there. If anything he bought one in spite of the economy, while many are hurting he has the money and security to purchase a new car (I'm sure Hyundai's buy back thing if your income changes helps too).

The 4 door Genesis looks like a lexus. And the coupe still looks like a Tiburon v3.0.

Rock on! I've been trying to convince my boyfriend to get a 3.8 Track. My discount makes it even more of a helluva deal, in my biased opinion.

You'll miss MINI land, but have fun with the BK!

And some of you just THINK you are.

Hell, I can hear that supercharger and the CAI all the way down here in Maryland.

While Hyundais have come a very long way from the days of the 1986 Excel, I personally would never trade a fine European car for one of those.

Having said that, the new Genesis top of the line sedan has gathered impressive reviews. But you are still dealing with the long term stigma of Korean cars and their dismal resale values.

But hey, you can get them cheap and look much better than your everyday Toyotas and Hondas.

Wow... harsh. Granted the guy ditched his MINI, but no need to rip on his new ride.

Again, biased (tomorrow is payday, and it even comes in USD), but my "fine European car" has had a lot more problems than many (most?) of "those" that I work around/with and hear about from customers when I'm testing their cars 4 years later. In 1986 it was junk and even the Koreans will tell you that, but now it's all stigma and perception.

Sorry... we're the only ones in Detroit left with jobs and I'd really like to put some gauges in my MINI.

Good luck! I rented a Saturn Sky for an event this past weekend, and it was really nice to drive something kind of fun, and not worry about whether I'm going to break it...it's how I feel with my MINI right now...keep breaking parts....but not having a back seat, nor realizing the trunk was no where near as flexible as my rear seats, nor having the power or torque of my modded MINI..I certainly won't be trading my MINI in for this "something" different of a car..though it was fun for those two days.

Seems driving something else for awhile, then coming back to the MINI is a great way to recapture the "lost" love...though, I sometimes wonder if I should have gone down the mod path that I did, or just buy something that was meant to push 250+hp to begin with, lol...naw, I could never leave the MINI community nor give up my MINI!

I think Hyundai and Kia has pretty respectable product. Unfortunately, Korean cars still suffer from a perception problem (real or not) and have dismal resale values. Again not something of my own but how the used car market tends to treat these products.

I think the Hyundai Genesis sedan has put Lexus/Toyota on notice. For what it is, is a very nice automobile and I hope it does well for them.

The Kia Soul is another car that has the potential of giving the Scion xB a real tough time.
