R50/53 Dealer are asking for $42,620.00 for an S cooper with JCW :

I had the opportunity to check out the new 2004 MINI Cooper S with John Cooper work kit at Assael MINI. It was an S with Chili Red and White top, Premium package, Sport package, 17” Chrome wheel package and Navigation system. The price they are asking for is 41,620.00 + tax.
What do all of you think about the prices? I think for $42,620.00 I would get the stander S model and get all of the after market products and still out preformed the John Cooper work kit. Best of all I will still have almost $15,000.00 in the bank.

>>They are either INSANE or on drugs. For that kind of money you could get a much better car.
I agree. For that kind of money there are a lot a nice cars on the market.

They wouldn't charge it if people weren't paying those prices. Stupid as they may be, $$$ is $$$ and I don't care who it comes from. If you asked $40,000 for your COOPER S and someone else agreed to pay it, I'm sure you'd take it too. I would.
You're free to deal with whoever you want and pay what ever you want and wait however long it takes. No one is putting a gun to anyones head here telling them they have to hawk out $40k for a MINI.

Holy Cow! You could almost walk out of a Chevy Dealership with a Corvette Z06 at that price, and you can come pretty darn close walking out of a BMW with a base M3. Anyone walking into the dealership looking at that JCW would pretty much drop down a few more grand and get the M3 coupe.
I would not buy that even if the JCW did come with a warranty. Heck, you could buy put that money toward aftermarket mods, and still have enough left over to replace most items in the car.

I agree, just a few grand more would buy you a base M3, still a very nice car even without all the factory extras that would push the price to close to $61,000.00.

Yeah, and what is sad is that the chrome wheel package is overpriced from the dealer. The JCW package is arguably overpriced. But that still wouldn't be bad if that is what you wanted, but add another $10,000 on top of all that, and it is just "stupid pricing". Although I am sure someone will pay for that. At Global Imports in Atlanta someone walked out with a $42,000 Mini with every single add-on including aero kit, wheels, JCW, rally lights, Invincashield, Sirius radio, alarm...
As I was shopping around for mine I noticed a lot of price gouging from BMW. In fact sometimes the cars had add-ons that cost more than if I were to bring it back to the same dealerhip and have parts/service install the item for me. I saw some dealerships sales departments charging $700-$800 for the alarm on a car in the lot, but their parts/service department would put it on for $450. It is just terrible when dealers feel they have to take advantage of demand. I wouldn't mind paying a slight premium if I got exceptional service, but even that has really gone down the tubes. It is amazing how many Mini dealerships have sales people who do not know much about the cars. It is a two vehicle manufacturer for crying out loud. They should know every nook and cranny and every option/spec for these cars. That is there job and what they are suppose to be trained at. I know this is a rant, but it really disgusts me see the service industry continually decline, the consumer having to just put up with it, and prices continually rising. Just short term thinking for a short term profit.

$42,000 is crazy, you could buy a lot of great cars for that price. I bought my Corvette Z06 used low mileage mint condition for $35,000. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love my MCS (I paid MSRP ($24,500) with all 3 option packages and HK.) but even with all those options and the JCW kit, it's not worth $42,000. Who ever eventually buys that car better keep it forever, because they will lose their shirt when they try to sell it.

>>42k is absolutely insane! I just picked up my jet black cooper s w/jcw with pretty much the same options for 32k out the door...
Abel,
Aloha and welcome to MCO-
$32K is good, you did very well. The problem is that few JCW kits are available still. So if you walked up to my dealer and said do you have a kit in stock and can you install it today the answer is no and no.
JCW kits- long wait to get them in stock and waiting list of people that have been waiting 6 months before you.
Then once it gets in the dealer must install it and it takes over 10 hours to do so you need to get on the service schedule so another 1-2 week wait and 2 days of install so you wait and then loose time for the actual work to be done.
The alternative is to buy an MCS with JCW installed already and that is the point of getting it already done and on the showroom floor ready to go. For busy people on the go wth $$$funds it might not seem so unreasonable to buy a LOADED MCS for this seemingly high price. A corvette (nice car) is not an MCS with JCW. One is super power and the other super handling (could even be better with suspension mods and lighter wheels!).
I'd never help the dealer and purchase something so overpriced but if the market can bear it then they can post a price that seems too high. Homes are no different. Would you be surprised if I told you that an average 3 bedroom single family home in Hawaii 5-10 years old on a 6000 square foot lot is going for about $360,000 each and that home sales are very brisk- it is a sellers market with multiple offers above the asking price.

So what if someone that bought a home a few years ago for $290K now sold for $360K and had to move to the Memphis area with some case and didn't need all of it for a nice home in a suburb. Lets say a job move and say $250K was enough to cover buying a home and some is left over for investing and maybe a new car?
Here comes the MCS with JCW kit and the other options and is sitting there for $41K. Maybe you talk them down to $38K? The dealer is no fool, there are people out there that can afford a special MCS if the demand is high and the supply is low.
Isn't it insane to live in Hawaii and own a home? Remember we are not talking a luxury home for $360K, this is the average used home on small lots with no view. Basic housing. Ouch. Nice homes with views and beachfronts are about $2 to 8 million each. Must be nice. I'll take my MCS anyday.

This dealer has a long history of price gouging. There is even a thread on mini2 titled "Price
Gouging at Assael" in the SoCal section.
I have walked off their lot many times, even after I was told to "wait here, I'll be right back" They
are the worst dealer in SoCal, possibly the world.
