R50/53 Transmission stuck in top gear
Transmission stuck in top gear
Here's a new one for me: While driving my '02 MCS the other day, & went to down shift from 6th gear, Without any warning or noise, the shift lever was stuck, in gear.
What little movement I could get from the stick, caused gear grinding. Not even neutral can be selected. The sucker is just plain stuck in 6th. The weather wasn't even cold. The clutch engages and disengages OK, and after checking, there is no obvious issue with the slave & master clutch cylinders (ie: leaks, movement, fluid etc). Has this problem happened to you in the past, and what can I expect to have repaired?

Cables etc checked out OK. Transmission jambed. Not good. Will swap out with a re-manufactured unit. Replace the clutch while we are in there. Boy I miss the good old "new car" warranty days. Ouch!
Email me the price and condition Thanks

The base just-a-cooper midlands manfactured tranny has a less than stellar reputation...after checking the linkage, it propable means it has failed internally....
Looks like the cable popped off the transmission linkage at the ball joint. Pushed it back on and back in business. Only problem is how do I keep it from popping off again? It seemed to slide on almost too easy and I feel that it can pop right back off.
I have bentley manual and to replace the cable it says I have to drop the exhaust!...is that true?...anyone have a workaround?
