Release Bearing Guide Sleeve

My 6-speed 2004 MCS was built in March '04. From early on I was never happy with the feel of the clutch linkage, sort of a granular feel during the process of disengagement. I complained to the dealer, to no avail. Now I see from the Pelican parts website that there was a change in the release bearing 'guide sleeve' as of July 2004, p/n 23117551766 replacing p/n 23117551719. Does anyone know what the difference is? Can the new sleeve (and presumably the release bearing also) be retrofitted to a car with the earlier build-date?

There are photos and descriptions of both parts in this thread. Yes, they both can be retrofit.
