In very very close proximity to NYC is:
1) Watkins Glen Raceway, Watkins Glen, NY-The Glen is a hollwed track where some people travel the country if not the world, just to take a session there...a motorsport mecca everyone must traverse.
2) Lime RocK Race Park, Lakeville CT- Another must do "bucket item" at this historic track.
3) New Jersey Motorsport Park, Millville, NJ- One of the newest venues for motorsports, have not done it but seen the KONI Challenge race with RSR MINIs there.
4) Pocono Raceway, Long Pond, PA- Really close
5) VIR, Alton, VA- Great track, went there in Nov. This one was on my personal bucket list.
6) Summit Point Raceway, Summit Point, WV- Probably the other historic track-got the chance to go there on same weekend as VIR. They have a carroussell like Germany's legenday Nürburgring.
There are others not listed like private or "country club" tracks like Monticello, NY or Ovals-they are either predominatly oval tracks with road course inside like NH, Delaware or Pocono Speedway, but clubs do have track days at all these venues as well, check your local BMWCCA, NASA, SCCA , PCA or TrackDaze for their schedules. Also give Auto-X a shot, its cheaper.
Just Do It.....You will not regret it
PS: There are usually NO tracks near metropolitan areas, especially now cause of NIMBYers (Not In My Bak Yard) due to envoronmental concerns, noise pollution concerns and traffic congestion, dismal cost benefit analysis, but mostly lack of land in metro area, you need about 1 square mile for a decent course (for parking, paddocks, additional garages, accommodations, stores, consessions, buffer zones (not for cars but mitigate evironmental concers)

I thought the OP asked to have this thread closed. Statements like this quote is what gets people riled up and the heated arguments started. Do you like to start arguments ?
What's the matter...can't handle the truth?

Oh, forgot to mention Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy, also a great school, that caters to all MINIs and Minis. And they have become alot better about having 1-on-1 instruction recently. But I would suggest the BMWCCA Car Control Clinic first then Phil Wicks or BMWCCA High Performance Driving School. Then later try the NASA, PCA HPDEs.
