R50/53 OBD Scanner and Reset
OBD Scanner and Reset
I've looked thru all the threads I could fine on scanners. Has any members tried this product : MINI R5/EMX Engine Scan Diagnostic Code Reader (Service Light Scan & Reset)
They were on sale for 120 with free shipping...Is the product worth the money and will it do what it is advertised to do...thanks, maurola

I have not seen this tool, but for a little more you can get a ScanGuageII, or save a lot and get a low priced reader for about $50.
Most scanners do the same thing. I have both a ScanGuageII and a cheep one. The cheep one I got from Sears on sale will do almost anything I need. The ScanGuageII stays installed in the MINI and can read and clear codes. However, I got it for the real time readings.

I have a Equus Code reader and a Peake MINI Cooper code reader/reset tool. In my opinion, I like having both. Since my wife has a Mazda 6 and a Toyota Celica, plus with my Suzuki, the normal reader comes in handy. As for the Cooper specific, I like it a lot. Sure, you can reset the service interval light without a reader, but there are also BMW specific codes you can read with the Cooper specific one. It's your personal preference. I bought my Peake Cooper tool back in 2003 when I bought my Solid Gold Cooper. I later upgraded to an S model. I plan on keeping my Cooper S for a long time, so to me it was worth it. If you don't plan on keeping the car, get a cheaper one, or a Scan Gauge II like some of the others suggested.
Does the Mini scanner do more than just give you code and reset functions, will it give you temps and pressures and voltages in real time like some of the more expensive unit...thanks for you reply and yes I plan on keeping this mini, I like everything about it and plan to do all my own maintenance and repair....no sense in having a car you can't toy with!!
