Rear seats up or down...

Do you leave your rear seats up or down?

Mine are always down. I've only had to sit someone back there a half dozen times or so and find putting the seat up on rare occasion far more convenient than putting them down every time I need to haul something, which seems to happen regularly.

I also really like that the burble is far more audible with the seats down.

So, which is it for you?

Mine are always down. I'm 6'4" so nobody is sitting behind me anyway. I'm looking to get a delete kit with harness attachments so I won't have them long anway.

My rear seats are usually out, but I keep the cushion in so that it looks clean.

My seat cushion is in, with only one seat back in. That is for my daughter to sit in. On special occasions (car shows, track days, MOTD), the seats come out and the rear seat delete kit goes in.

Up, with the rear cover on also. My Alta header and cat-back are kinda loud, so couldn't use my bluetooth if it was any louder

Mine are mostly up with the cover in place. There has only been two times anyone has been seated back there.

I have a JCW exhaust & can hear the burble just fine. Love the burble...

Usually up. That way you have a fully enclosed cargo area.

I always had them u when I still had them in. Now with the delete, I have nothing but a carpeted platform. I did the RSD myself because I didn't like what was available. I added some sound deadening material beneath it because it was a bit loud without it.

I leave my rear seats down, in the basement...haha. Once you have racing seats that don't recline/fold, there's not much point having rear seats in a Mini.

Really depends what I have in the trunk..

nothing = down adds noise effect.. my full miltek sounds really nice and you can really hear the poping.. miltek doesnt drone, so no issues there!

stuff = up.. in a crash anything that is not secured turns into a missle aimed at you.. a loose book travelling at 50km/hr can do some serious damage! it's often loose objects that kill people in crashes and one reason i keep my car very clean inside.

I have a child that for some lawful reason requires me to have a child seat installed... yes I'm a noob father but still...i have no choice but to keep one of the seats up. The other is down, no thanks to a butt ugly stroller the degrades the sportiness of my super cooper. I love the kid, don't get me wrong.

Survey says female cooper owners leave the back seats down while male owners forget to put them down....

Most stuff doesn't have enough mass to inflict critical damage in a crash. There was an episode of Mythbusters on it, though it's been a while since I've seen that episode.

Yes, running with the seats folded down does increase the noise coming from the rear, but as nabeshin says, sometimes that isn't such a bad thing. Removing sound absorbing things from the interior though (rear seats, front seats - replaced with fiberglass shells) really increases the noise. I did just lay a LOT of deamplifier (I prefer it to other material) inside the boot area and the noise level decreased, but still not enough to run the straight exhaust

I put them down the day I brought the car home, and that's how they've stayed.

Up. I usually keep my books/notebooks for school back there so they're kinda out of the way. And sometimes people sit in the back.

Mine are down usually, so my dog can have a better view of the people at whom he wants to bark.

I guess it depends on the size of the dog... Mine are up so our 55 lb English Setter/Weimaraner mix has enough room. I also don't want her getting launced into the back of the hatch when I'm accelerating with boost, or flying up front when I slam on the brakes (when she's not in her safety harness).

I leave mine in the basement! I have a custom made carpeted platform with a cut out for the harness attachment points.

Pepper is a male, 23-24 lb., full-sized Schnauzer-Poodle mix [aka all legs]. He loves to ride and to move freely from front to back in my MINIs. I tried the restraint in between the seatbacks, but he jumps over them every time. The safety harness is hard to match with Pepper's size, and he hates being confined in that manner, anyway.

I usually drive with one up and one down. I like the sound of my Miltek but I'm partial to supercharger whine. Leaving one down lets me easily get larger items inside. I'm also 6'4" so nobody's sitting behind me anyway.
