MINI on a kart track

My local dealer is cool enough to hold this event several times a year. They rent out this Kart track and let the local mini club basically run the track all day long. They even bring out their cars to let you drive.

Hey, K! Didn't know you were there. Did you have the rims on your car? I saw a DS with the same rims you were selling. Anyways, yes, this was truly as awesome time. Had a blast. I'll have to get my video uploaded and post it. Here's some pictures though **The dealership is Dreyer & Rienbold in Indy. Track is located in New Castle, IN. www.newcastleraceway.com.

Here's a link to my video http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...10690401149683

I apparently was taking corners too fast and my sidemarker fell out...

Here's the slalom

There's a lot more over at MINICCI.org. We had a good turnout! I was real pleased. Can't wait till March...hopefully they do it again.

Nice photos Skillet!

Yep, I was there. I decided to go ahead and put the TD wheels on the car. You have one nice DS MCS and were driving it really well all day. Eventually when this is not my daily driver I plan on autocrossing it more and learning how to drive...

Jealous!

There's not even a Mini club around here. There's definitely enough Minis to do so, but they're mostly owned by snooty older people with no sense of fun.

Thanks for the compliments! I definately want to make mine more competitive on the track. I've got a BBK to purchase, more sticky tires, and a more stiff suspension. AutoX has helped some, but driving schools are the way to go (although I've never been...). I'd really suggest finding a local club, and running with them. I've only participated in 2 Auto-X events this summer It's a blast though. One was a Great American Solo Series event, and they were nice enough to put me in STX instead of SM like I should be. Here's a pic of the car I would have been running against in SM...

Hehe. That wouldn't have ended well. :P

SCCA has some local events here during the summer on the weekends. Only problem is... I work weekends. >.<

Not at all. I had a slipping belt, bald A/S tires, and he was running 10 seconds faster than I was. That Evo was NICE! Highly modified, running alcohol or higher octane (smelled like beer ).

Working weekends sucks...Sometimes I have to and it ruins lots of plans...

K. You have anything else done to your MINI besides the DDM intake and rims? I know it's far out yet, but if they hold another event, you plan on being there in March?

Way put a 15% pulley on as well with the DDM intake. I am running some plane rotors with Carbotech bobcat pads which seemed to work really well on this small type of course. Eventually I would like to put an LSD and new clutch, some coil overs / camber plates up front, rear sway bar and possibly an exhaust would be inorder if I keep this car. Not sure I want to put that much money into a car with a few miles on it though...

My tires are simply some Falken 912's and not really suited for autox or the track. After dental school or when we buy a 3rd car I will eventually plan on running a 2nd set of better tires. What tire do you run? I thought I saw Yokohama but can't remember.

You're good! I'm running Yokohama Advan A/S'. Great tire, but not for the track. If I do end up picking up some rims, they're gonna be light weight, and have sticky summer compounded rubber on them

I don't remember watching you run out there, but I'm curious how the Carbotech's compare to my Hawk Ceramics... I noticed a lot of fade throught the day. Wish I had more bite... I've read some good stuff about the Carbotech's, but I like my low dusting with the Hawks...hmm...decisions...

I did not run as much as you but after several laps I did not have any fade. I would think the fade on that track is more about brake fluid than your Hawk pads, but I don't know much. I am running Motul RBF600 fluid...

The carbotech pads dust 10 times less than the stocks. Before these I had EBC greenstuff and they were a huge improvement over stock for dust. The carbotechs show even less dust....

Well, I'm running the same brake fluid. I'll have to look into the Carbotech's next spring.

Wow! What a cool event. Thanks for sharing it. Nice vid, BTW.

That old expression, "More fun that a barrel o' monkeys," should be changed to "More fun than a track full o' MINIs!"

I'll have to look through my pictures to see if I've got any of your car in them. How long were you there for Bunce? You guys get a chance to drive the JCW Clubman? Ugh....drool... I loved it. It still had a bit too much sway, and I was a little upset that they wouldn't turn off the traction control, but I understand why they didn't...

I hear Motortober is a national thing. I'm surprised more dealerships don't try and find places like this to hold the event.

PittStop MINI uses the kart track at Beaver Run at their Gyminikhana event in October. Tons of fun. Was sad I couldn't go this year. :(

Up here in Western NY we get to do this too. The local BMW autox holds events at a gokart track and even has a MINI day which the dealership pays for so there is no cost to us. It really is a bunch of fun.
