A/C Blowing upwards?

Hey all, I have an 02 JCW, and currently I am trying to figure out the climate control system. When I have the settings on manual, set to panel vents, it blows through the grate right above the speedometer, and barely comes out of the panel vents. When I switch to defrost, it comes out of the defrost vents only, and if set to the floor I only have the floor..

Question is... Can I direct the air/heat/air con through the front panel vents ONLY? or does it have to split between both?

Thanks!
Tim

The grate above the speedo is considered part of the front vents (I think I read speculation/theory that it's for getting air to the rear?) so there's no way to do that. CooperGear offers a cover to place over the upper vent to redirect airflow towards the front, if you want to give that a try.

thecigarman's vent mod

I called Coopergear many times and finally made my own. It is still under development but here is the prototype for thecigarman's vent mod:

I took a piece of heavy rubber that would be used as a stairway runner and notched it about 1 inch with notches matching the grate. The resultant tabs were pointed and fit into the top of the grate openings.

You could, of course direct the airflow in either direction.

I had intended to post this later, but if it helps you, that is fine with me.
