Adding a rear outlet

I have an '03 MCS and realize that it is the only year without a rear outlet in the back and would like to add one.

There is a plugged opening in that area where other years have one and
I suspect that the wiring to tap into is the same from year to year.

Can someone tell me what wire location and the wire colors that the outlet connects to in that area in other years? Or has someone added one?

You know, I would love to know also. I was just looking at this the other day, and decided it would be really nice to have back there, especially since I will be getting a portable air compressor and goo kit for my non-runflats..

I had a couple of Jeep Grand Cherokees and a PT cruiser that had them in the back and once I started using them I did all the time.

Not only the compressor, but I also have a 110 converter, a trouble light, and a cooler that plug in and heats/cools and have used all numerous times. That cooler and light were great at tailgates. In the Cruiser (that had old-school pinstriping), I even had lights in the rear window.

I'd like to have that flexibility in my MINI.

You could run a wire to the fuse box up front or more simply, for MCS owners, just run a fused line from the battery. That would be pretty simple. My '03 Cooper didn't have it, and because the battery was up front, adding the socket wasn't a simple task.

The wires go to the fuse holder II fuse box. The colors are brown(ground) and a stripe wire for power(red/black/yellow). The power wire gets power from one side of a normally open relay, which is supplied from F31(20A). The coil of the relay is energized when the key is switched on. The ground wire is connected to the body behind the left hand trim panel in the boot.

OK Frenchie. I am a university prof, a have a PhD and am above average in mechanical ability but can you please describe this in language a 5th grader could understand?

Can you tell me where I would look to see if the striped wire for power(red/black/yellow) is present? Do I need to add a relay or is that already there? Does the relay activate anything else or is it only for the outlet

Inquiring minds want to know...

(All in jest; I just need you to hold my hand through this, my friend....)

Click on the thumbnail in my post to see the wiring diagram. The relay only powers the outlet. This diagram is from a 2002 R50 which is what I have. I dont know if the cars that were sold without the option are prewired for the option; if so I would expect the wires to be tucked away somewhere behind the left side panel in the boot. Hope this helps!
