Oppurtunity Beckons...

I need help. An oppurtunity has come to my attention, to get a used mini.

So i have been watching the auto auctions just to see if a mini will show up. To my delightment, and amazment one has. The site says it is a 2003 but it has the "yolk" tail lights...

The tail laights that, i thought, were not custom to the R53. Well the yolk tail lights were on 07's and later, i thought, well the mini has 85k miles on it! Which seems a little unlikely for a 07 (if it is). My question is am i wrong about the tail lights were they on 03's, or R53s??

Another thing is it has a decent amount of hail damage, all the windows on the passenger side are blown out, and there are dents on the roof. I know this can be fixed but what would the price range be for this to be done. I think we can get the mini for around $9k considering the amount of damage, but i dont know if i should go any more than that, because i dont know how much the repairs will be. So your input will be greatly appreciated!!

P.S. All i know is that it is a justacooper and it has a sunroof, so i am assuming that it has the premium pkg. But we are seeing the car in person on fri, and the car will be auctioned off on saturday. Which is why i need to act..... FAST!!!

MINIs had yellow indicators until 2004. I'm assuming that's what you mean by "yolk" lights.

I can't imagine the new widows and dent repair being any more than $2,000.

Do you have any more details on the car? Since it's an 03 MC with 85k on it, I'd be concerned for the Midlans transmission.

By "yolk" lights yes i mean the yellow indicators. And all the info thats been posted is pretty much what i have.

I was worried about the tranmission also as far as the mileage is concerned. As far as the hail damage i know i would have to replace all that glass. So thats what im concerned about price wise.

I'm really wondering why that car is going through auction in damaged condition. Seems strange that the damage wouldn't have been repaired by the previous owners insurance. I find it hard to believe it would have been totaled & sent to auction. Something just doesn't smell right to me.

^^Thats why we are seeing the car in person. I know it sounds a little fishy but i have a friend who was in the smae circumstance with a truck, and hail damage. He just fixed the damage and is driving it as we speak. You never know though, i sorta feel the same way, the whole sounds to good to be true deal.

Does anyone else know how much hail repair would be?? I know i would have to replace all the glass on the driver side and replace the sunroof, including all the dents.

Typical panel dent repair and repaint is about $1000 per panel. It may be more if it's several dents they have to smooth out.

Too me it sounds like a salvage title. Maybe the insurance wrote it off. Also because it was weather related they didn't have home owners insurance which usually covers weather damage.

I'd call some window shops to get quotes from them.
