it used to be a simple solution when my boot would not lock. i would touch the button on the boot and it would reset itself. now the latch doesn't "click" as if no power is getting to it. i tried the suggested remedies...holding down the "unlock" button on the key fob 5+ seconds and locking and unlocking the car with the key to no avail. i seem to remember a discussion that memtioned another solution, but i couldn't seem to find it in the search. any ideas?

have the latch replaced. My mcs was doing this, so I had it replaced at my first service interval, and it's been fine ever since.

it is acting up again.. does not seat properly
does the latch on top of the bumper part of the back move..
i mean, the part the boot latches into moves
is that supposed to be able to move?

Awhile back, my boot hatch would not latch. I slammed it harder in each attempt and still it would not latch. After much frustation I remembered a post on another site and improvised a little on the solution:

1) I used a pencil to slide the movable/sliding part of the latch so that it would rotate. (This tricks the electronic system to "think" that the hatch is closed.)
2) Then with my other hand, I reached for the boot button on the hatch and pressed it to open. (A rapid number of clicks will be heard)

Apparently, the electronic system can get out of synch. I don't know what I did to get it out of synch, but it did.

Here are a few threads that describe more involving solutions:

I want to thank everyone for the creative solutions. So far nothing has worked. I get the feeling that the solenoid in my latch button is not working. I can't get the audible "clicks" that I used to. Even when I tried Vespa and Sullivan's re-syncronizing solutions, I got nothing. Looks like the dealer will get a visit soon. Thanks again.

Another sniggling problem, another response from MINIDivision....

I'm on my second boot latch and now I have to have that one fixed/replaced for rattling. The first two completely failed and my boot wouldn't close at all. It's a pretty quick replacement procedure.

I find MINI's answer to faults to be a little strange. I'm now on my third boot latch, but I shouldn't have needed #3. I had it replaced due to the rattle, but after that, it was difficult to close unless I had my hand on the right side when closing. After living with it that way for a bit, I decided to have a look see. A quick inspection revealed that the problem was a slight mal-adjustment and the latch was slightly off line. Heck, it's probably something I could have fixed, but the car was going in for it's regular oil & such service soon, so I just mentioned it to them when I brought it in. Their answer, replace the whole latch. At least the problem was fixed, though.
