R50/53 Battery dying on 04?
did i ask how to fix my flat? i posted that in my venting thread, not in this thread.
I don't understand this bickering. OP asked for help cause he can't solve things on his own. This seems to be a serious problem which others are also unable to resolve. I just hope it is not related to some of his mods and that it did not void the warranty on his car and that the dealer will fix it at no charge.
Okay, okay, okay now. Let's stick to the topic at hand and stop with the namecalling and generalized noise here. I'd hate to lock the thread before a resolution is found.
Simple test for accessory drag is removing the belt. If the engine spins over easier, a driven accessory is the culprit. Anything that does not spin freely by hand, save for the blower which takes a bit of effort compared to everything else, is the likely suspect.
With a fresh battery, if the voltage drops to about 9 volts at the battery terminals, the draw is way excessive and almost always indicates a bad starter. A small drop but sluggish starting indicates bad connections, a loose ground strap (kinda common on MINIs), or a bad starter or solenoid.
A beeping-like squeak as the engine is trying to turn over is usually caused by high current flow through the solenoid. This usually means the starter motor is bad as well.
The starter is replaced somewhat easy but only after removing the exhaust header and the heat shields above and below it. The bolts holding the starter go all the way through the flywheel housing and into the trans, so they are big 10mm bolts the same as the rest of the engine-to-trans bolts. They are tight and a bit tough to get a grip on without a selection of socket extensions and a u-joint. There are two of them, plus the wiring. easy swap once it's loose.

(Is it possible to restrict a user from a thread? It is very annoying to be reading a thread trying to learn and gather information when there is all this "noise.")
Ignore button is under the user profile.
There you go spelling boy. I know how big of a stickler you're [ your vs you're. look it up] for spelling and grammar. I would not go around calling fail on anyone with that Explorer still sitting in your daddy's garage. Good luck with your flat. Take lots of pictures. Keep us updated on the progress.
What's different?
Did anything get changed, or you just go out there and turn the key and no starting? Did it click, turn over and not fire? Did the voltage drop and not turn? There are a lot of ways that it "won't start", but without more info, those of us willing to help don't have anything to go on....

I don't know. But as long as you keep replying to me either the button is not working, or there is a user failure.
