R50/53 Goodbye Cooper S, Hello M Roadster
>>Thanks Ryan, I knew you'd enjoy the M aspect.
>>
>>Got it off Ebay auction, paid $22,225. It's on a wholesale lot in CT, but will shipped to me next week. Still can't believe the price. Had the dealer send me mucho more photos and the car is absolutely perfect inside and out. The rear window is brand new looking even. Woah! Has 51k on the clock.

You're going to be very happy. I remember early this winter when I was looking at Z3s and there was a BMW dealer in Rockville that had an M Roadster at an incredible price low 20s. I couldn't believe it. It had roughly the same miles and was the same color. (I'm going off 9 months or so of decaying memory here).

Very beautiful car! You really got one heck of a nice baragain price on it. Hard to argue with your choice. That BMW M Roadster is one of a kind "Collectible" and looks miles better than the all new Z4 replacement (Not yet available in M-series).
Anyway enjoy and keep checking back.

Great car. I wanted a 99 M Coupe. Just loved the way it drove. Kind of like a scalpel with wheels. Unfortunately, my wife HATED the looks of the coupe. I admit it's kind of odd looking, sort of like a set of Nike running shoes. Anyway, I didn't get it. Also, my wife has a 99 Miata, so one 2 seater is enough for the family.
The MCS comes about as close to the handling and road contact of the M coupe as anything I've driven. Not as fast, of course. But a great car. Good luck with your M.

>>I don't see a SINGLE cup holder in that car!!!!
>>
>>Oh, the HORRORS!!!
Actually it has two! Both in the center console next to the e-brake. And they are both useable for things larger than a can of pop. Take that MINI.

Congrats on the car it looks beautiful. I own a new M3 (until it was stolen three weeks ago) myself. I strongly suggest having that car inspected by a BMW dealer or qualified BMW tech. The reason the M roadsters have dropped in value is that they are so expensive to fix. Most M drivers drive their cars very, very, hard. Just go to a track day or an autocross and you'll see a dozen or so M cars. Especially since your car is out of the factory warranty. The most costly repair is the VANOS timing system. This could fail as early as 60,000 miles and is a $3,000 repair. Also when you drive the car make sure you don't hear any pinging noises. Many M own track their cars and engine oil starvation (caused from high g loads in sharp turns) is common with these cars.
I'm sure you found a great car, but since you don'tknow the previous owner or have the service records it's worth checking out. I've bought about ten cars that way and some have turned out to be perfect and some have turned out to be a lemon. I always get an inspection.
CONGRATS ON THE CAR!!!!!! I'm sure you'll sell the MCS without a problem.

Well that car's definitely in a different class than the MCS... Much more power and MUCH sloppier handling. I think you'd have been better of with the torqueless wonder, Honda S2000, ESPECIALLY since you're main gripe with the MCS was it's quality. You're still driving a BMW product and BMW products are known for thier mid-to-low reliability. Why go and gripe about things breaking in the MCS and then buy another car that's known to have quality problems? It'd be like complaining about the relibility of you Ford Focus then trading it in on a Mustang. Sorry, but it just doesn't make sense.
Thanks racecardriver! It was actually inspected by a certified BMW tech and found to be in perfect order. They also did a 50k service for free, and I get a 1 month warranty from the dealer. The dealer sells only BMW/Audi/Mercedes off lease return, so I'm confident in their certification. But yikes! I will have my buddy at the local BMW dealer check the VANOS to be sure.

No, my gripe was that after REPEATED attempts the dealer couldn't get rid of several rattles until just recently. And let's be frank, a $45k car is built to a higher plane than a $20k car, pure and simple. All cars have issues. I just expect more than the average consumer, and that's why I decided to move a higher level of car, regardless of new/used. And BMW is known for it's mid to low reliability? Well, gee, go shoot your MINI and put it out of it's misery then. That's such a negative view and very incorrect. If BMW's had low reliability, they'd not have anyone buying them. Geeze dude, chill out and smoke a bowl or something.

Schweet ride, I hope you have lots of fun and trouble free miles with it and your Mini finds a good home. This is more like what you really wanted, and you should be happier with it. Don't be a stranger to these parts though, keep in touch! As the other Ryan said, we'll miss your pissy, witty posts.
Cheers!

I personally like the looks of the S2k that you were thinking about getting, but hondas dont have a whole lot of torque outta the factory, so you more than likely are getting the better end on the power deal (I say more than likely because I dont know much about BMWs).
Good luck and have fun with it!
