I have been a hard core BP customer since I purchased my MINI in April 2003. British car = British gas. Makes sense right? I can count on one hand the number of tanks I had filled with anything other than BP up until this spring. I have been having misc issues, and I thought I would give switching gas a try. Up until that point I had never seen better than 28 MPG on the highway and I had over 65K miles on the car. I now have over 70K miles and using Shell gas exclusively. I now regularly get 33 MPG on the highway. That is nuts! No other modifications were made to car at the time of the switch. Last weekend I did have new JCW 380 injectors and the JCW stage II program loaded, but the MPG has held steady at 33 MPG.
Not sure what to think of all that. Comments?

My MINIs always get better summer mpg than winter - warms up quicker for one thing; and I do more long distance MINI runs which helps (GPMINI was above 31mpg coming back from MINIsOnTop this weekend).
I use Sunoco 91 or Shell 93, I've not seen any real mpg difference from the gas - anything there is is swamped by that tanks driving use.

The best mileage I ever got over 1000 miles of every day driving was 36 mpg
using Shell. It always seemed to do a little better than other gas. That was before I moved to Louisville Ky ,the land of long untimed traffic lights 22mpg
and no local Shell stations near by. Just a Cooper.

Pushing over 400 miles out of my last 12.36 gallon fill-up (Supermarket brand 92 octane fill). Emptied half a bottle of Chevron w/ Techron fuel additive and I have a fresh air filter. Loving it.

Anyone here use Chevron? I've used them pretty exclusively for all of my cars. I get about 380-400 miles per tank using this gas with my MCS.

well im sure you are haveing the same issues we are having in oklahoma , alot of gas stations are adding 10-25% ethanol to the gas wich is giving people 10-20% mileage decrease. however in the state as of tomorrow they are required by law to say whether or not ethanol is added and falure to do so= shut down
From the first day I drove mine, nothing but Chevron. I figure that since the big three (GM, Ford, Chrysler) use it for the required EPA testing, and it wasn't sold in Michigan -they trucked it in from Kentucky- that says a lot.
i first heard that BP gas was one of the better ones out there..
but later to find out that my friend (who's in lincoln tech..for those of you who know wat that is..) told me that shell is better..so his teacher says? o.O
but i dont see a noticeable difference in gas mileage or anything of that sort..
and on another note..you guys are gettin some pretty good gas mileage..
i get 290 and only ONCE got 350 to 360 MOST..somewhere around there..

29 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving, generally using Shell 93 Octane (with Ethanol here in Illinois), and sometimes Citgo. I've used 89 Octane a couple times, and haven't experienced a difference (mpg or seat of the pants HP).
mix v-power and techron... what do you get? v-tec. bahaha trick some civic kids into thinking it's better for their v-tec power. hahaha lol
I've just just found out several things, including that one of my wife's old bosses is the descendent of the guy who founded Shell Oil. Shell oil was a British company, which later merged with Royal Dutch petroleum to form Royal Dutch Shell.
I'd already checked and Royal Dutch Shell is headquartered in the Netherlands (The Hague in fact). I also knew that Shell has a bloody big headquarters building in London.

Reason being, Shell is pretty much the only gas stations that are not yet using 10% ethanol blends. 10% ethanol will decrease your gas mileage by about 2mpg on avg. If I had a Shell station nearby, I would use nothing but. Ethanol is evil IMO and can be bad for cars(and especially boats) in general. (as well as the economy and a bunch of other things...but I'm not going to get started on it here)
EDIT: Double checked and Shell has begun adding ethanol at some stations in the past few months, but not all have it yet.

Now I have been "off WOT" for the most part and have been coasting to stops, but I have been doing that since we hit $4.00+ here in California, which was 2 months ago. If I check it on the highway, I can get maybe 34 mpg. But the milages I see here are completely out of my range? I do have a few mods on my car. Any suggestions?
I use either Chevron or Union 76, 91 octane. I would like to know how all you people are getting that high of mileage? I normally drive 70% city 30% highway, another words, "mixed". My on board computer, I know they are not always correct, normally says I average between, 24-25 mpg. What is weird though is the last couple weeks it jumped up to 28 mpg.

I think that a crucial part of being able to compare the Ave MPG is to list your Ave Speed for that same period. It says more about the type of driving than % City. I could drive 100% City in Chicago and never leave the freeway. In Cayce, SC, my average speed is in the mid to low 20's. If I leave town, the MPG and Ave Speed increase. Starts and stops.
