Other than the front end being backed into which is now fixed i got my first dent. I am very **** when it comes to my car. I am afraid to park it anywhere, especially a big lot like a mall. I have gone to the mall twice since having my car (about 7 months) and both times were very recent. One of the times i went during the week and there wasn't many cars.

I didn't go the the car show this year in NYC because i wasn't very interested. I don't think i would have seen a car that impressed me more than the one out my window you know? Off topic but just an example of how much i love my car.

Anyways, i am starting to tell myself that its a nice car but you can't let it stop you from doing things you like. So i started to loosen up a little taking it to the mall as i mentioned and this weekend i took it down the shore with my friends. Well it was a bad trip overall and ended up only staying one night. This morning i was walking around my car looking for any scratches (like i said i am **** about it) and i came across one just past the gas tank. I was pissed. I seem to remember a girl leaning against my car and i thought maybe her jean button scratched it. BUT as i wipe with my finger i realize that its actually a very small dent! Unreal! Just as i was telling myself to let loose, this happens. One trip - One Dent. Now its barely noticeable and i am not sure if it can be pulled out but man that sucks. I just needed to get that off my chest. Now my mother gave me the old "its a car, its gonna happen" crap. I dont want to hear that. This is the first time i took it a place that i wasn't all that comfortable with and bam (pun intended)

I recently watched a "dent doctor" specialist remove a series of dents from a BMW. Great stuff- I highly recommend it for you.
The final results are impressive. Just got to go to a really good one so get some recommendations. You might try your local
BMW Car club of america chapter- talk to the president or other officers to find the name of a good dent specialist.

By the way on my very first day out in a public parking place and in my first parking spot after a few minutes I picked up my one and only door scrape and ding.
Thank you very much. So inconsiderate. I had maybe 60 miles on the car at the time. I now have 5400 miles and have been hit by egg sized rocks on the freeway that leave large scratches on my grille and front bumper. At least I still have my windshield.

The MINI book of motoring says- don't worry about dents and such- it gives your MINI some character. A few battle scars means your MINI has been in use.

Ya! I hate when ppl tell me that . I think they just say that so they don't have to go to the dealer with me to get it fixed. Ya, I'm talking about my family. I'm complaining b/c I too have my share of dents after 6000 miles. Hope they come out. I have one wierd series of dents under the passenger door handle. they are like squiggly dents. I can't tell what they came from. No paint it gone, and I hope we all get our dents fixed.

I also am experiencing a ton of paint chips on my new hood and bumper. I had 4 chips in 4 months. Now after replacing hood and bumper i have about 30. I wonder if they matched the quality of what i had before? What can you do. Maybe in a few years ill buy a whole new hood and put the invisible shield on it. I have heard some good things about them. Thanks for your comments

Sorry to hear,

but the truth is, if you are going to REALLY use it and enjoy it, your Mini will get scratched and maybe even dinged. Sometimes, it's almost cathartic, to get the first scratch/ding out of the way.

Ya know, when my wife and I talked about getting a Mini in the first place I was a little worried about her bringing it down to Philadelphia, for school. But she insisted that it was a car (her dream car, her baby) but still a car and that it was stupid to own it if we weren't going to use it. So I shut up.

Anyway, not sure if you read the thread or not, but on the FIRST day of her new commute, she was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer ... $1800 damage. Well, we're not REALLY worried much about a scratch or adent anymore.

I recently caught the person responsible for badly gouging my back bumper ... because they were stupid enough to stay parked 6 inches behind me after they caused the damage!

No note no nothing. The hex bolt on their license plate holder matched the hex gouges in my bumper, which was 6 inches away. I was so steamed that I keyed their hood. Now they will have to pay the same money I will to have it fixed. I could have never gotten their insurance company to cough up the money. No one is responsible for anthing anymore; it's what you can get away with! Sad the world works this way, but people have to be made to feel the consequences of their actions and not run away. An eye for an eye!

Joe, stupid enough or oblivious enough? Ya know, a lot of people (especially older ones) drove cars with big metal bumpers for many years and back in the day, if you tapped someone with one of those, neither car had ANY damage. Some people don't realize that the same is not true anymore with painted, plastic instead of chrome and steel. And, other people just never learned or thought about it.

>>No note no nothing. The hex bolt on their license plate holder matched the hex gouges in my bumper, which was 6 inches away. I was so steamed that I keyed their hood. Now they will have to pay the same money I will to have it fixed. >>>

I don't want to give you a hard time, but what the heck did that accomplish? What they did was likely an accident and perhaps they didn't even realize it. But what you did is called vandalism. I understand that you were pissed. But you could have taken a digital camera and taken pics of their car and your car and how it was parked, and perhaps their license plate. Heck, you could have called the cops and got an accident report out of it and contacted them to see if they'd pay for the damage. I know it stinks and it's a pain in the @#$#@ but still, it's the high road man.

>>I could have never gotten their insurance company to cough up the money.>>>

True, it could have been tough, but pics, report and witnesses could have helped.

>> No one is responsible for anthing anymore; it's what you can get away with! Sad the world works this way, but people have to be made to feel the consequences of their actions and not run away. An eye for an eye!>>>>

I totally understand how you feel, I'd be enraged myself, but dude "eye for an eye" you're talking automotive anarchy. What's next, the paper boy accidently knocks over a plant so you brake a leg?

Let me throw one more possible scenario out... joe butthead comes back and sees you keying his hood so he grabs his glock and BAMN you never have to worry about a scratch on your bumper again. Or maybe it's not so insidious... maybe joe's friend see this and takes note of your car... then a week later your ______ (fill it in, mom, sister, girlfriend) is driving the car and joe thinks it was her so he terrorizes or beats them for your actions. Ya know, he'd just be taking an "eye for an eye"

I know I tend to make Swiftian arguements in this cases, but they're true.

Hey, when my wife was rear-ended Friday by some dumb trucker who wasn't paying attention she COULD have gotten out of her 30 day old Mini and opened a SERIOUS can of whoop-2#$@#$ on him, but instead she was gracious and understanding... and when the cops showed up she told her story and the trucker said "what she said" ...

OK, rant over, go back to lamenting dents and scratches.

I'm not saying that "IT IS ONLY A CAR" but "IT IS A CAR and IT WILL GET SCRATCHED" Remember Ferris Beuler's Day Off ... that Ferrari... great morality play on being too freakin' ****!

Umm... Does anyone know how much a dent costs to fix. My MINI is at the dealer getting 2 or 3 dents out and I never thought about the price . Can anyone that had a dent taken out tell me what they charged you?

I got a call from the dealer and they quoted me $250 to take out my 3 dents. Is that a good price? Seems steep to me , but I'm going to pay it.

I can't stop being **** about those dings and chips. I don't even have my MINI yet (it is at sea now!) but am already bracing. It is karma. Every car I get receives a ding in the driver's door quickly. I see cool cars parked carelessly with no dings at all.

Anyway, some precautions I am already taking:

1) I bought a bra for the front due to the lower curves leaving it so vulnerable. I know bras don't look good and even can do damage if left on. But I plan to strap her on Mrs. Peel at least on roadtrips.

2) I'm going to buy magnetic doorguards. I also hate the idea of putting them on and ruining the lines of a car they will look weird on. These can be put on only when forced to park in a danger spot and stored in the trunk. I suggest you check them out at Z3 Solutions. It is hard to find on the web. I have it bookmarked and the address comes up as: http://64225.94.154

Has anyone looked into or used these? If so, what da ya know?

Also, I live in Iowa City, Iowa. It's a nice place but not large enough to have any "dent doctors" listed. Anyone know of one within a couple of hundred miles from the heartland???

Like I said, it is karmic and I know I will get dinged soon.

Are you talking about paintless dent repair? If so, normally the person doing the removal does it for a fixed price per panel $60-$80. Sounds like they might be charging you a handeling fee. Best to go straight to the source.

Take it back to the shop. Sounds like a paint adhesion problem.

Well get this, I was at my friend's house visiting and showing her my new car and all... we are standing right next to my car talking and these two young punk *** kids, come walking their bikes across the street and around my car, and the one kid pushes his bike into my car trying to run it along the side of my car to scratch it... and it wasnt like there was no room or that he lost balance, he deliberately tried to scratch my car... and he didnt care, and i did say something, no apology, nothing, just got a "So What" with a "i dont care" attitude....

I really felt like running him over, but what good would it have done? If i was big enough i woulda beaten the crap out of him, but he was just a stupid kid in his teens, what could i do except call him a low life punk piece of sht**t dirt bag @$$hole that will never amount to anything.... At the very least the peddle of the bike only hit the black plastic part above the tires... not sure of the proper name... but there was no damage, thank god for my car and thank god for his sake... i coudlnt have beaten him up myself but i have some very large friends that would have gladly done the job.........

People suck major *****, what can i say... some people are just jealous they will never have anything nice so they try to ruin other people's nice things... im just glad i no longer live in the neighborhood i grew up in and now live in a nicer neighborhood where i dont have to worry about petty bs like that.... accidental dents and dingys are bound to happen i know... but it just upsets me that people can be so mean for no reason....

We must be twins...i have the same fears...the day i brought mine home the kid next door drove his soccer ball into the side of the passenger door. I only had it home 5 mins...cant type what i said to the kid. My wife threatened to wash my mouth out with soap.
