R50/53 Anyone happy with the 16 inch wheels?
i am worried about the cost of replacement tires, the ride and the mushrooming effect which i feel the 17 inch wheels have a tendency to exacerbate.
Also i figure with a convertible, the extra cushion of a taller sidewall will help with the ride even more so and not transmit shockwaves to the body

16 inch wheels work fine for us, once we've replaced the runflats with real tires. A friend got a Cooper-S at the same time we did, he got 17" whees and the ride is quite harsh, over and above the runflat harshness.
I honestly prefer the car on 16's. It has both style and wieght savings over 17's.
but for some reason i luv webspokes and s lites.

+1...I had 17s but the ride was killing me. They looked sweet, but man if the road was not perfectly smooth it was not fun. So I switched back to 16s. That and ditching the runflats made a huge difference.
I have 17's with Minilites on my S and 16 OZ's on my Cooper. I like the ride of the 16's better. Tires are the Bridgestone Potenza RE01's on the S and Eagle-F1 GSD3's on the Cooper.

I ditched the run-flats more than a year ago. I still have 16's and picked up the SportMax002's with Falken Ziex 912's back in February. My rims are 16lbs each, and the Falken's are way lighter than the run-flats.
Ride comfort is improved substantially as well as handling. I used to have a 2002 MCS with the S-Lites and the run-flats. Definitely not as good as what I have now.

I have two sets of 16" wheels - the original 5-spokers that came with the sport package, and a second set of 7-spokers that I bought from a lister here, and like them both. I'm not sorry I didn't get 17s.

DUDE, is it necessary to criticize someone else for something that doesn't affect you or your car or your life or your wallet or ///
I was waiting for someone to prove my theory that there is always someone who has to beyotch.
And no, they aren't the same subject. stuff gets buried in some of the longer posts and never gets answered so thats why I did that.

I added a size bigger on the tires for my 17s , made the ride a lot smoother. just bought a new set of wheels...i stuck with 17s...most normal people cant tell the difference, but i sure can just by looks
I liked my 16" 7 Fins that came on my 'vert, but I did upgrade to R90s. My plan for replacement tires is either to go the NAM marketplace or go for the Kuhmos at $88 a piece and a goo kit. Also, I mean no offense, but you should have posted this (and previous threads) in the Cabrio section.

of course it does, but I believe that the ride affects the convertibles much more so and the benefit is more noticeable..
But no sweat, some people have to whine...
Thats it!! I will get a license plate that says WHINER
lol
maybe it's just me. but i had 17" r98's and bought the 16" 5-star r83's?
and the ride is SO much smoother even with the runflats on it..
but one thing that bugs me..is that when i turn it feels like the air in the tires are just going out while i turn..i feel as if the 17's turn way better
is it the dunlop sp's runflats? or is it just cause the tire wall is bigger?
i might be getting s-lites instead..only cause they look wayyy cooler once they're painted..sexy sexy
