>>Ryan, besides a certain frustation we've discussed in private, I'm not sure what the actual problem is. For example; if I was pissed at a forum, I wouldn't sell my car. Likewise, if my car had a rattle or two, I'd get off my butt and fix it, I don't trust some incompetent careless dealership to give two farts about it.

both of you ryans crack me up!
it's not gonna be the same with only my conspiracy theorist friend ryan around! hehehe
behold a pale horse.....or behold the pale horsepower! hehehehe

Sorry to see a fellow MINI/Miata owner go-we'll miss you!! As far as the site is concerned, a whole lot of MCOers just recently helped me through a rough time in my life & I thank each & every one of them. I'm still here just not a lot of free time these days.

Davbret,
I vote on the sorry-to-see-you-go side...
One less resonable enthusiastic poster on the site. Knowing that your place will be taken by some hair trigger flame artist just makes it worse.

I love my MINI, but I'm with Lmini here. In fact I was so upset to see her unjustly blasted in the Performance Mods forum (the perpetrators then figurtively high fived each other for calling her a *****... genius - just makes you proud doesn't it) that I decided to visit less often and concentrate on other boards.

Anyway, I have been in your shoes before. Great cars that just let you down with quality issues. Sometimes they are worth the pain and sometimes they are not. My SAAB fell into the later camp.

Cheers and greener pastures to you...
Eric

Hate to see you leave, Ryan and Ant, but your reasons are well founded. I've been lucky enough to only have had minor problems with my two Minis... so I can't imagine what its been like for you. Anyways, good luck, have fun with your S2000 and 350Zs respectively.

I totally hate to see you both leave too. Ryan/Davebret you were one of the first people on this site, through all your positve input and energy that made me commit to purchasing the MINI. I was also hesitant about buying a European vehicle with quality control issues, but with the community I found here last year, it made the decision that much easier. In fact all the older members here Mark, LMini, Jer/SarcuxKSU(love the new sprog BTW), 2minis, Yucca, Rocketboy, Clo, oh there are just too many of you to name right now, all of you have been great in supporting the MCO family.

Ants I admire the fact that you are moving to pursue what you want, although you got some flak for the Oakleys, you are now the reason that my obsession for the Oakley brand and products is getting out of control. Thanks.

Good luck to the both of you, and happy motoring in whatever you choose.

>>Talk about a love/hate situation....
>>
>>Yes folks, I've put my Coop up for sale. I've had it with the rattles, the crappy ECU and the painful lumbar. Not to mention I started a club here in the Portland area and can't get but one other person to help me. So I spend too much time trying to keep things together and it's turned into a part time job. Yuck! NEVER my intention. And despite pleas for assistance, no one wants to step up and help. Frustrating to say the least. The MINI is not my life, but damn if you couldn't fool me right now. And quite honestly, the lack of a drop top over my head was more than I thought I could deal with coming from my Miata. I've since realized that I'm just not totally satisfied in a car unless it's a convertible. Hey, that's my crazy thinking and I have to stay true to myself. And there's other issues at bay I'll not discuss here.
>>
>>But I will say the negative crap influxing this forum is getting really old, too, especially in Power Mods. And that's adding to it. I don't want to have to deal with flame fests when coming to an enthusiast website. I still post on Miata.net, my past car and forum I visited. I'm not sure I can say the same for MCO after I sell the Coopster.
>>
>>Maybe I'm being rash and irrational, but after a LONG LONG talk with my partner last night, I decided that this is best for me, all things considered. Just wanted to say an official good-bye to those great people on here I've chatted with over the past year.
>>
>>I've decided to wash my hands of this car and move on. It was fun, it was a serious pain in the ***. Pretty sure I'm going to get an S2000 and just enjoy the car and avoid all forums and clubs on it.
Thanks for your help and I hope I was able to return some favors as well.

The MINI is a car...no more ..no less.
Some of us have had serious problems while others have been relatively problem free..It's a crap shoot as I see it. It's no different from any car out there today.
Many posts ago...I mentioned that if I actually knew that the S2000 was only 10k more than this MCS ...I would be driving one now. I've driven a couple of em since...and IMHO they have less torque than the MINI.. They are rockets @ 7K , but I personally don't drive there. It's a great car... (I'm a ragtop luv myself)...so got get em dude

I personally have a love/hate relationshsip w/ this MCS.... as I'm sure others here do as well.
I luv the uniqueness/fun factor/cult association and get real upset at the poor quality/workmanship/problematic issues like coldstart/ stumble/etc...etc of certain features and components.

As for the site...yeah it's changed.
There is a increasing presence of ...lack of respect. Some feel ..."Well it's the net..I can do or say as I dam please".There are individulas that I pay no mind to...and individuals who pay no mind to me
I'm all about respect and I try to show it and earn it everday .
Sometimes you win...and sometimes you loose
Everything changes.
Such is life.
When it stops being fun..I'll stop hanging out here.
It's still fun...so I'm still here.

Ryan...enjoy your new car.... They are...sweet!!!!
(BTW my vote is for a black one :smile
Please keep in touch.

Be happy
Be safe

Peace,
D

I like the S2000 in concept. I owned a Civic Si with a smaller version of the HO VTEC and all of the power is up very high where you can rarely get to it in city driving. When I considered upgrading my Miata last summer, I strongly considered an S2000.

One recommendation. A friend of mine with a 911 and 330ci was set on getting a Boxster and hated the Z4's. That was until he drove the Z4 and now he's getting one next spring. It must be one helluva car.

Just a thought but effortless inline 6 power might be just the fix after driving a Mini.

to paraphrase the governator: "you'll be bak (sic)" The strange thing about the Mini is that it has the same effect on you that all those other seductive vices have on the human soul... it's call is powerful and undeniable. Love, hate, exasperation -- all are irrelevant. Like the siren's call, it must be answered... so, take a break and check back in when you get your next Mini...

Ryan,

Thank you for sharing yourself with us over the past year. Your MINI-related presence was informative, helpful and consistent. It has been like having our own service advisor on staff.

More than that, however, I've appreciated your real-ness in other areas of this forum. You have freely expressed your opinions and I have more of a sense of who you are as a person than almost anyone else here.

I've followed your career frustrations, your political and social opinions and I get the sense that this year was filled with much discontent. Sometimes making a change as simple as the vehicle you drive can make other things in your life shift as well. I pray that with the change of vehicle that other things in your life fall into place and you find yourself in hamini with your life's purpose.

May good things come your way. I admire someone who doesn't just complain, they make change.

Peace,
Kim

Sorry to see ya go Ryan! This thread was just brought to my attention. You have been in THAT many times for rattles? I have heard of maybe one or two times for some of my customers that are "spirited" drivers but not 15+. Oh wait...... you have lowered sport springs and a sliiightly modified car. So I guess that could be the case. Also wasn't your ECU modified by MINI Madness? Aannnnyways sorry to see you go and I wish you luck with your Honda.
Oh and PS....I think your car was in for rattles maybe 5 times? After I saw your 15+ post I checked with service. Unless you are driving to Tacoma or Sacramento for service.

Good luck, Ryan, sounds like you're burned out and need a break. You've left a lot of good information and posts on this site. Thanks!

However, i agree with redleg13. There may yet be another MINI in your future. A year or two down the road when a newer, more powerfuly MINI comes along with a few of the new car kinks ironed out, you may find youself with a 'jones' for a MINI once again.

I haven't had a significant problem yet with my MCS. I've owned 'faster' cars, but I've never owned one that was more fun to drive. I suppose that I might move on to a different ride someday too, but for now that's just a theory.
