Does anyone know the price of a standard license plate for new vehicles in California? From the DMV website I see a no frills personalized one costs $41 to start and $25/year.

Since I've never had a personalized license plate and just paid my yearly DMV fees on previous cars, I was wondering how much extra this is, over a non personalized plate?

Or am I just thinking about this all wrong? Maybe the answer is that it's $25/year additional?

Thanks!

Richard

Richard,

My understanding is that it is just the $25 per year extra to have one. They bill it in on your annual renewal fee so you don't even really feel it.

Thanks!! That was quick. I love MCO! Well I guess with the tripled car registration, what's $25 extra?

Seriously. They should only triple the car registrations on those that can afford it--anyone that can drive a car that gets less than 34mpg or 25mpg for S's.

CA DMV can order plates online here. Has all the ordering costs and yearly renewal fees.

Thanks! Actually I kinda knew that, but I was trying to compare it to the cost of normal, non personalized plates, until I realized it was $25 extra versus $0 extra.
