R50/53 CEL after exhaust install
CEL after exhaust install
Well, I entrusted a muffler shop to do my stealth exhaust install since I could not get the flange bolts off. I'm happy with the exhaust, but I immediately noticed the CEL light is on now. Is this common? I don't see how the exhaust could throw a code since its after the o2 sensor. I plan on going to an auto parts store tomorrow to see what the code is. I was hoping it would go away, but after driving 50 miles or so today, its still on. Could they have done something to the o2 sensor while installing the exhaust? What i remember, they shouldn't have needed to remove it..

yes they do.
Cat back doesnt make a difference. They always disconnect the O2 sensor beore letting the system hang, also a shop manual rec.
I took it to auto parts store to read the code, they said it was Bank 1 sensor 2, so im assuming thats the sensor right at the cat. I JUST got off the phone with the shop. They claimed that they did not even touch the sensor when replacing the exhaust. but I know they had to cut the old bolts off with a plasma cutter. So i am going by this evening after work to have them put it on the lift and visually inspect it.
I had the autoparts store turn off the light, but it came right back on after the first trip. So if I get there and everything seems to be hooked up properly...is it possible for the exhaust to trip the sensor even though it comes after it, or did i just experience a very strange coincidence that my sensor just happened to go bad? I just had the stupid things replaced not even 15k miles ago.
