ohhhhhhh niceeeeeeee!!!!!!!

one question;
I heard having slots that extends to the very outer edge of the disc puts a lot more pressure to the disc to crack. is it true?

Makes sense, I'd say. But if I were to get into any serious track days where the heat would be created to worry about that, I'll probably have the money to get an entire big brake kit upgrade, anyway. Good thought, though. And probably true. Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

i would like to hear opinions too..
because i wanted to go with the power slots like you but then I saw their
slots extend to the very outer edge so I've been looking for a set that doesn't. (like the picture of Brembo kit i posted above)

but yea.. theWING, those slots look darn good! did you get Hawk ceramics? or the HPS(?)

HPS. Didn't do enough research on ceramics. I'd say eventually I'll move to ceramics (and get the ceramic rotors, as well) but that will probably be when I move up to track days, too.

seems like you made the right choice according to your needs!
I heard the hawk ceramics are a bit harsh on the rotors.
i'm thinking hps too

the cracking issue I guess makes sense, because of the high stress concentration at the edge and decreased thickness to support it. Add on to that some high operating temperatures, and it could be an issue. However, I'm sure a professional manufacturer would have thought of that. They may heat treat their discs to something way higher than what you really need to it pretty much gets rid of the issue. Any more thoughts? I'm interested.

Those look great for your needs though! I'm sure they will stop like a beast!

I have the cryo-tempered powerslots and the HPS pads. That cryo process is to help against warping, I'm not sure about cracking. It shouldn't matter that the slots go to the edge, the brake pad doesn't even touch at the very edge.

Moreover, the slotted rotors are way less likely, if even likely at all, to crack as opposed to drilled rotors.

Main reason why I went slotted.

I have a question about new brakes in general now. Got my pads and rotors on this morning and from the get go I noticed two things...

#1. Brake pedal is much firmer.
#2. The brakes aren't as strong as before.

I know there are perfectly fine explanations for both and I shouldn't be too worried. Explanations...

#1. New brakes, new fluid, and new pads = firmer pedal feel.
#2. Brakes need "break-in" time just like tires before they offer their full stopping prowess.

Are these explanations correct? If they are, how long is the general break-in time for brakes? When should I expect to feel an improvement?

Hawk HPS brakes pads are fantastic. I had them on all four corners on my WRX.

There should have been a brake bedding instruction sheet with your powerslot rotors. Follow that and you should be good to go.

With the HPS pads and powerslots, your brakes will not be as good as stock unless they are heated up well. After that, I hope your seat belt is on tight.

Slots which continue to the edge of the rotor allow pad material, water, and gas, an exit path; a better design than interrupted slots. Any rotor can crack if exposed to enough heat over enough time. My Powerslots have over 70,000 miles of use, most of the miles with Ferodo DS2500 pads; no pad material deposits, pad smear, fade or cracks. They are good rotor for the street and will provide long service life if heat cycled correctly for the initial break-in. I don’t know if the Hawks will be up to the cycling needed to do the rotors justice but I wouldn’t worry about it.

Umm... *****

I didn't receive any information about the break in instructions.

Anyone know the proper procedure?

from the powerslot sheet:

"In order to assure maximum life and brake pad performance the system should be frequently heat cycled. Prolonged, excessive, heat during the bedding process can dramatically affect the performance of the power slot system. for best results make 6-10 stops from 35 to 5 mph applying moderate pressure. When brakes cool make another 2-3 hard stops from 50 to 10 mph always keeping the vehicle moving. Next, the system should be cycled by firmly applying brake pressure to produce heat in the system, but only for short periods of time. Allow the system to cool an repeat the process. This will begin the tempering process. Avoid excessive or high speed braking until your new system has seated in. This will take approximately 200 to 500 miles. Not following the break-in procedure will severely affect how your new power slot system will funcion.

Under heavy braking a slight whirring noise might be audible. This is a normal noise."

The whole idea is to get pad material onto the rotors.
