Offset

So, lets say I was going to get Black O.Z. UltraLeggera 17"x 7" rims. From Tire Rack, the offset is at 37mm. What is OEM wheels offset at? Is 37mm what I would need for my '06 Cooper?

Thanks, >>

37mm will fit but it will be tight if you go with wide tires.

For a 17x7 a safe range is 45-35mm

I am running 37 and so far no rubbing(huge bumps it may slightly) but it is damn close.

I am running 205/45/17.

You can only get the Ultraleggeras from Tirerack at 37mms. So you are saying that would work though, right?

Yah it will work.....look how many people run those wheels on this forum. As is true of all wheel fitting though, if you get incorrect tire sizes, you run the risk of rubbing when you're running lower offsets like 37mm.

Do you have more info about your setup? What size tires do you plan on running? Will you be lowering the car? With what springs/coilovers? Will you be running negative camber? Have you trimmed your arches?

I would be putting the rims on 195/55-16. This is also what tirerack recommends.
Where I live, i can't afford to lower the car. Springs for now would be the OEM, as with everything else, stock.

195/55-16 <--- typo? You mean 17? You can't fit 16" tires on 17" wheels. The width also seems odd for a tirerack recommendation...I figured they would recommend a 205.

But...you guys are saying that there may be some rubbing on bigger bumps? I know its not a big deal and that tons of people get the same wheels I will get, but what would get rubbed? The inside of the fender?

Yah the inside of the fender is what would get rubbed....but if you're not lowering it, there won't be any issues with rubbing as the arch won't be near the tire

OK, I have some Kosei K1's that are 45mm offset. I found a couple for 'spares' that were sold to me on the net. The seller said they were 45mm. I found out MUCH later they are actually 35mm. From the above it looks like a 35mm plus a 10mm spacer would equal 45mm offset, though I've been told a 35mm wheel and 10mm spacer would equal 25mm.

(I'd rather get some more new K1 Racings but seems they've been discontinued in favor of the twin spokes)

Wheels that are 35mm with a 10mm spacer will be et25mm.

Offset is the distance from the centerline out to the mounting spot. If you place a 10mm spacer on this mounting spot, it becomes 10mm CLOSER to the centerline of the wheel.....thus the distance from the centerline to the mounting spot will now be 25mm away rather than 35mm away.

This picture might help a little more. The right side is the side that you see on the outside of the car. As you can see, if you added a spacer, the distance (as shown by the maroon line in the middle of the pic) would be that much shorter than it used to be....thus the offset would be lower.

I'm about to mount a similar rim to the Exel TZ10 in 7x17 with ET37. The tyre will be 205/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A W.
I'll be getting coilovers soon. Not to slam it but to do do mountain roads mainly.
Will I have problems of rubbing?
I can have another rim exactly the same shape but with ET40. Will this be a better option?
