Downtube Torx Screw - One of these screws is doin' it's own thing...

Anyone know if the Torx screw on the right side of the right downtube (mine's a 2006 MCS, not sure if they differ by model) should be a T-25 or a T-30 size screw? Another way to compare is: Is this screw the same size as the screws in your door?

I had some work done and since then the right downtube squeaks a bit, and is very loose (the cause of the crackling). I found that all the screws in the interior (doors, other downtube, etc) are size T-30's - all the same - but on the right side of my right downtube my screw is a T-25. And I can't tighten it - it just spins and spins and spins. And, it's slightly bent. Anyway, wondering if I should get a T-30 to replace it, or if that T-25 is the right side but something else is going on...anyone noticed this, know it, or has taken a look lately?

Thanks!

the wrong one is installed. the lower ones on the downtubes are smaller, the uppers are larger. you might need to get a new larger one if the lower one has the large installed (it opened up the hole if so)

down tubes

Wrong - large head on left - small head on right - different size torx for each side. Probably missed the screw clip.

The clip is likely broken. They are made of plastic and break fairly easily if over-tightened. You can find metal alternatives in the 'specialty" hardware drawers at Home Depot or Lowes. The TORX screws on the driver's side are larger than those of the passenger side as mentioned above.

thanks. I think you're right that the clip's probably broken. Slightly annoying that the dealership did so, but I guess I'll have to pull it apart and get a new one in there. Thanks.
