R50/53 MINI price increase
I was just told by my motoring advisor my 2004 MINI will only be increasing in price $24. I almost got a 2003, I am glad I waited. This is nothing to pay for a car a whole year newer.
Realize that the car would need *two* of those sensors -- one for each window. In the US that would add well over one hundred million dollars to the sticker price of each car. In other countries it'd cost about a buck.
Don't blame MINI. Go down to your local courthouse and whack a judge or two in the kneecaps.

vespa, I couldn't agree more; the $100,000,000 per MINI will go directly to the lawyers of each parent that has kids, even if they don't have a MINI, or if the kid has never got his fingers stuck in the window. I smell a pre-emptive lawsuit (stoooopid, the biggest eye roll in the county

I don’t know if I would go as far to put the blame for that one on the judges. There is an industry in the US that is feed by legislation and then abused by trial lawyers. What we need is tort reform.

Vespa,
What is the car pictured in your signature?
P.S. -- I agree with you about the one-touch up. My '94 BMW 325is has that feature on both windows, and I'm not happy that the MINI doesn't.

>>I think they should increase it by whatever small amount it costs to add the safety sensors for auto-up windows.
I had a BMW 325 xi wagon for a loaner while mine was getting worked on a few weeks ago. Guess what? 1 touch up windows, both sides. I also stuck my finger in the gap as they were going up and they didn't stop. Granted, I didn't leave my finger there until the window couldn't go any more, but I did apply a fair amount of pressure but that didn't seem to stop the window on it's finger smoooshin' mission.
Oh and the wagon? if I had to drive a station wagon, that definitely would be it! although I'd have a hard time justifying all-wheel drive

Yeah, my Dad has a S4 and it has auto up windows, and my Inlaws just bought a new A4 wagon (2002) and it has auto up also. The drivers switches have it for all the windows and the switches on each door do it too... What gives whith this. They sell it on the MINI elsewhere with it, and other cars in the USA have them, but no auto up on the MINI in the USA???? They should at least offer it as an "option" because they would make a lot of $$$ if you could have it done at the dealer for $100.....
Is there a mod yet that can get it done???

This was just out today Aug 1,2003

>>Auto up windows? Who cares.<<
Because it's 5-7 seconds (whatever it is) where you could have another hand on the wheel, and your brain preoccupied (however minimally) by one less thing. Sounds like safety to me.

That judge that you're going to whack just applies the law to the particular case - he or she doesn't make the law. The trial lawyers would not have a job is you (yes, the public) did not go to them and seek money they don't deserve. And you (yes, the public) sit on the juries that award the incredible awards that you read about. So, whack yourself while you're at it.

As far as safety goes, within that 5-7 whatever seconds a young child with a slow reaction could get his fingers caught in the window! therefore, giving you something to really be preoccupied about, then causing a 5 car pile up, and sending 3 people to the hospital, one of which is dead the next day
This happened to me!
