yes, we do get another toggle. It's not clear to me whether that means there is going to be a completely new toggle bank included though.

My original post as it was just the initial teaser release, but I have since updated it to include the full press release.

Sa-weeet!

So, shall we attempt to fish a part number out of our local (closest) dealer, for ordering?

When do you figure they'll put us on the Retro-fit List for the upgrades (if dealers are going to approach this as a recall)?

Thanks for the great news, Dave TheScientist!

Oh goodie another toggle switch, I been wondering waht to do with that blank spot on the conso. Can't wait to get all hooked up!l
Apollo 13 the movie was on the TV a few nights ago and I pointed out to my wife all the toggle switches in their consol that were nested between metal hoops, I said see how cool that is, that's just like the Mini, her response was "that's nice honey" and she kept on kniting, I don't think she even looked up! w8)

The installation should be free or at least really cheap!

Knowing how retarded the so cal dealers are they'll know nothing about it and we'll be the last to get them...

This makes me very very happy!!

One question ...

Will both of the rear fog lights come on? Or is it only one side like they have in England? I've hear that in England with the driving on the left side of the road, only their right fogs come on so they do not get hit from behind while someone is passing them.

Am I missing something...I don't see anything here that mentions "recall." So, it seems that those of us who want this will have to pay $75 plus installation. Frankly, I'm not at all surprised...but perhaps disappointed. I can think of other things that I'd rather spend $75 (actually, probably at least $125 with installation) on first.

I never really belived it would be a recall, that just wouldn't make sense in the real world. But $75 bucks is not a lot of money(well actually it is for me, but it's money I'm willing to spend). Now if the cost of labor is much more, then it will take some saving on my part. But still, that's nothing compaired to say, the cost of rally lights.

That's great. Now we just need them to retrofit the 12v outlet in the hatch.

All I can say is that if you haven't seen a MINI with the rear fogs installed and operating, you may want to do so before dropping $75 plus installation on the job. Maybe you'll decide that it's for you and worth the cash. But maybe not. I just think you should see what it adds first.

IMO, if it was free (i.e., came with the car or was retrofitted for free), I'd surely take it. But I don't think that rear fog lights are worth as much as $75. I'd rather use the lights for extra brake lights...which btw I DO think are worth about that much (although you can do it for next to free )

Figures. After getting all the stuff to install factory front foglights in my car, with NO instructions, NO wiring, etc. NOW there is a kit available.

Grrrrr

Mini prices fog light kits

By Richard Truett
Automotive News / July 31, 2003

BMW this week made official its plan to offer Mini Cooper owners the rear fog lights they have been demanding.

Starting in late September, the automaker will sell dealer-installed fog light kits for all Minis sold in the United States since 2002, when the brand was introduced.

The rear fog light kit will sell for $75, plus installation costs. The front and rear fog light kits will cost $199, plus installation. Dealers typically charge about $200 for the installation, which involves adding wiring and a switch, and reprogramming the car's software.

<< $275 for rear fog??!!! OMG!! When I moved to the UK it cost 20 pounds sterling to convert my Camry to euro spec, including rear fog light.

RAPE>>

Wow. Can't wait to see what happens when they upload software for fog lights. Maybe flames will shoot out when I engage the clutch.

But seriously---what freaking software do they need? Isn't this just a switch and some wires??? Is this to keep it from being DIY possible?

Remember. WE are the enthusiasts here. Your average MINI owner will probably not care nor even know anything about the read fog lights or this kit. I don't think there will be hundreds of people lining up at each dealer. Sounds great though and I'm in if installation isn't a total rip.

Seriously, that's what I thought. Dealers charge around $100 or so an hour so you figure that it COULD be billed as an hour or maybe even two I guess. But that really stinks.
