Has anyone else had the PCV valve(part load breather) rubber elbow go bad on them? It seems like the tubing they used for the elbow has been broken down buy the synthetic oil vapor that runs through this tube, causing it to collapse at RPM's above 2000rpm. If not, check this elbow and look for an oily residue and It should be fairly rigid to overcome the vacuum in the tube. Anyway, I just thought I would run it by everyone.

Oh yeah! This sucker went soft and started producing this horrible wheezing sound from under the bonnet. It was collapsing and narrowng so it sounded like a cheezy party horn when you let off the gas. My wife thought I was nuts when I mentioned it, but I had her step on the gas pedal while I was buried under the hood. And I found it!

The same oil vapor that caused this elbow to go soft, also made my supercharger rubber seal on the RIGHT side (facing the engine bay) go soft and slide around on the metal of the supercharger producing a really poor seal. The dealer cleaned it, the metal and all surrounding parts - still sliding around! They finally had to pull one off another car and replace it. No more wiggle - AND my MINI had a performance increase like you wouldn't believe.

Makes me wonder how long the thing was slopping around!? It's like getting a new MINI all over again! So the moral of the story - get that elbow replaced and while their rooting around have them check the supercharger seal too!

It's in front of the "M" of the MINI on the top of your engine.(Cooper S)

The PCV valve and rubber elbow (goes soft) is a VERY common problem- please do check that your hose is hard or firm-if not have it replaced along with the PCV valve.
