The kids and I are driving to Dallas from Chicago this spring and I have a question or two. I have a spare for the car and would like to take it with us but with all the other stuff we will have I don't think I will have enough room. My question is, should I not take it and "wing" it or should I get a roof rack and strap it on and drive around really looking like I'm on vacation and scared. I looked in the guide for Mini dealerships along the way and none can be found. If anyone has had this problem or has any ideas that could help us.

I have changed wheels and tires - went with Yokohama AVS ES100 in 215/40zr-17 from Discount Tire (American Tire in some places) and I go without a spare. You are going on a nice ride and some states don't have a Discount Tire but that's the chance I'm willing to take. Some people carry a can of fix a flat.
