Hello. I will be picking up my MINI later this week. The dealer is trying to sell me the different warranties. $895 for Tire and Rim pack; $895 for extended maintainence warranty; and $2200 for 7yr/100K coverage (i think for things like AC etc) any thoughts out there from the MINI gallery. Thanks.

dont buy those

standard warranty is good enough

if after couple of years u think ur mini is in bad shape and needs work..u could extend the warranty then

i worked for car dealerships

those things are ripoffs

I agree with Ryan. Forget all that padding and go with the standard warranty, since you CAN extend it anytime before it expires!

Cheers!

Thank to you all for the advice. OK. I'm getting the base model MINI. INDIU Blue with Sports and Premium package. I was going to change to 17" tires but I stuck with the 16". Momentum MINI in Houston has been barely OK ...I was scheduled to pick up my car yesterday 7/14 but they gave me a hassle with the laon company I was working with. After some ranting on my part I will be picking the car up later this week or early next week. I am so very excited. But what about the warranty on the tires and Rims.. the dealer tells me that for $895 I will be covered for 5 years for any flats that need exchges and any problems with Rims. Any thoughts on this?

Me again Also, when the dealer wanted to program my computer I was not into having all the programming done they offered...I can have them change this at the first oil change however..also I need to reveal to all my new MINI friends that this will the first new car I have ever owned...I'm a child of the '60s and have been driving a '78 280Z for most of my driving life so needless to say all the computer gadgets I have no interest in...any thoughts?

I did buy an extended one for my new 1990 Chevy S-10. It only cost me 800 to extend it from 36,000 to 50,000. Then at about 1,000 miles past the 50K warantee I had to get my rear-end gears redone because they completely wore out. It would have cost me over 1200 including the rental car. It was free because the dealership had proof that the gears started going bad before that 50,000 mile warrante expired. So in that case it did work out OK for me. That was my first ever vehicle purchase and I needed that extra security.
