Sorry to hear about the accident, the most important thing is that everyone is OK.

My wife recently had her car fixed (Focus), once I went over it with a fine tooth comb it went back in for >$2K of additional work as they hadn't replaced several tweaked frame members! I'm still convinced the AAA agent was getting a kick back... and I'm still ticked as >90% of people (including my wife) would have accepted the bad work). Needless to say once the work was done I switched insurance agencies (AAA even tried to increase her rate though she wasn't at fault!).

I would insist on the dealer performing or at least supervising the work, if you can't get this then insist on a highly reputable shop and have someone else check the work. You can often get better work if you emphasis that quality is more important than speed as shops are used to people that want the car back ASAP.

BTW $9K is way more than I though as well, I was guessing ~$6-$7K...

I'm thinking $4000 for pain and suffering alone. That's in addition to his med bills, lost wages, and that jacket.
Youre good! he got 3000, and i was talking about it with him after i sent that message, and he corrected me: he didnt fully break his collarbone when he got hit, it was only a hairline fracture; that was after the fact when he was trying to ride the damaged bike home. The brakes of the bike slipped down and grabbed a spoke instead of the rim of the wheel, and he went over the handlebars and fully fractured it. The second part we chalked up as my fathers fault, he shouldnt have been riding that soon after the accident. Anyway, the bike that he was hit by cost more than 3000, so he spent all his claim money on the bike instead of a jacket!

Be very critical of the quality of the paint job and find a good shop with good references. It takes some care to lay down metalic paint so that it matches the factory spray. Anyone can spray a metalic paint, but it takes some care and thought to adjust the gun and spray distances to get the flake to lay down as it did at the factory.

That's what I expected, too.

CR&PW&JB--$2500? Only in la-la land--no way in this part of the world...

In this part of the world, $9,000 in damages and you'd be looking at a mess of tangled metal. Must've been a crapload of hidden damage. :impatient

I would be suprised if that was only $9000 in damages.

Mine started out with a $1400 estimate. The final total (four supplemental estimates later) was $2700. This is what $2700 in damages looks like:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1782672&postcount=62

Repairs took six weeks. For some reason, the State Farm rep could not seem to get the right part numbers on the estimate. All replacements were OEM. I only saw one part that was repaired...it had minimal damage to begin with and was non structural. The bonnet just needed a respray and new stripes.

Hope you get your MINI back soon and they do a good job.

I also guessed the damage to be around $2,500, $9k is amazing. My wife hit my MINI in the same place but not nearly as bad. I'm hoping PDR will take care of it.

I had no structural damage to mine and it was $2700. For the most part, I just need a new bumper. Nothing behind the bumper was damaged. The bonnet and headlight were just scratched...no metal bending...just a fresh coat of paint and clear coat.

If I remember correctly, the new headlight ran about $800 and the new bumper (w/o paint) was about $250.

There are all kinds of little parts behind that metal. All those parts then end up being connected to other parts that you never new about. It adds up quickly. Once they start taking things apart, I bet they find other damage. Also, labor adds a good chunk to that total.

I've been in 3 MINI involved wrecks and I'd say $8K or $9k is about right. My last one was a Tahoe backing into my car in a parking lot, needed new headlight, bonnet and front bumper and it was $4500. No damage under the hood or to the quarter panel and door like on this car.

My other two were $1900 and $2800. Once rear ended and another backed into in a parking garage. All SUV's... hmm....

Good luck with the repairs. It will be as good as new when they're done.

Too late, it probably already does.

There's only one manufacturer I know of that destroys rather than repairs a panel that isn't perfect when they're building the car, and it ain't MINI.
