Strange sound when braking

Hi gang,

Whenever I apply pressure to the brakes, I get a strange sound. It sounds like when you first brake after the car has been sitting out in the rain and the rotors are wet. Although this happens WHENEVER I brake.

The brakes work fine, the noise is just very noticeable.

Is this normal? Indicative of a greater problem?

How many miles are your current brake pads? How many pad changes have you done so far? Have you ever changed the rotors? Maybe it's the brake sensor that's wearing through.

Just did a visual and the rotors/pads look fine.

I checked the service records and the car had its brakes changed in February.

Brakes that look fine should not sound like that. I'd try some brake rotor cleaner on them.

Are you still in the 3 year, 36,000 free maintenance range? If so let the dealer deal with it.

Yes, what I plan to do. The closest dealer is 96 miles away which makes servicing a pain.

I noticed a small groove at the same place on both rear rotors, so I'm thinking that may be the origin of my sound. The pads feel healthy.

Ok, new development. I jacked the car up and the rear wheels do NOT spin freely with the E-brake DISENGAGED. I have to actually pull on the wheel for it to rotate.

What's that mean? Frozen e-brake?
