look at the other cars in these pics...all 'driver's cars' (WRX, S2000, Wrangler...not sporting, but full of character)....the CRX was still my personal favorite:

Curved dash over the instrument cluster? Poser. I loved the fact that you couldn't get any power accessories for that car. No possibility for extra weight. Of course that was 18 years ago for me. I know i love my Mini power accessories.

they didn't even include a dinger for the headlights. after 2-3 times leaving them on and pushstarting it, I made my own for $5 from Radio Shack parts....a piezo and fuse taps put across the switched lead and dome light (maybe weighed 1oz and at wholesale would have cost $.25). What's sad is they continued this 'design feature' on my wife's '92 EG Civic VX (lean burn VTEC....52mpg FTW).

I had the predecessor, the Civic Si hatchback ...it was MINI-like in that it was tiny, front-wheel drive and a hatchback, but the similarities ended there.

I don't think there has ever been anything quite like a MINI ...that's one of the many reasons I drive one.

There have been recalls on the Vtec having to do with emmissions, I'm sure if I were to actually spend time on it I could find others.

I'm really surprised that there are MINI owners out there who are slamming their cars and putting them down, if you do not like your MINI, sell it.

I am enjoying mine and have had no issues with it. I'm sure if you look and inquire, you will find EVERY manufacturer has disgruntled owners. I think that MINI probably has their share of them, but from the multitude of owners I have talked to that the number is likely to be fewer than the average.

I am talking about the hardware failure on the Honda Vtec.
I agree with you on your other comments.

the MINI is a great car, but it's got it's faults and it's charm, just like every other car out there. forgive us for not drinking the kool-aid and being realists.

2700lbs vs. 2300lbs = less of an advantage than you might think. you do have to drive the snot out of a B16 to go fast, but that was part of it's character. Honda motors have a sewing machine precision....nobody really matches it for anything near the price. I've had 340 ft/lbs in my Subaru and yet my D16 CRX with 108hp and 105 ft/lbs of tq was more fun to drive.

HP and TQ alone a fun car do not make. There's a je ne sais quoi about some cars....a unique mix that makes them stellar driver's cars.
WELL SAID!!!

I completely agree. I had an '85 vw cabrio wolfsburg edition that only had about 92 bhp, but boy was that thing a ball to drive! If fun was measured in hp alone, the mini wouldnt exist. It's the whole package, something the mini does very well!
